since i returned my thinkpad, i'm looking at other laptop brands to see if there is a better alternative.

as i type this, i am on a vaio at best buy in sioux falls. i rebooted, killed the bbibrowser (bestbuy's proprietary shit), and i am now on windows xp.

here's the breakdown:

first, the sony laptops don't even have screen latches now! lots of the screens just close and don't latch. as for the rest of the build, it lacks even more than the thinkpad. i can flex the display and get distortion very easily. it has many weak places in the build (non-reinforced plastic). screen hinges are weak. some models are built better than others, but all lack more than the thinkpad. the keyboard is very inferior to the thinkpad's great keyboard.

they have some nice features, but overall, i'd rate them as inferior to even the lenovo thinkpads. not to mention the amount of proprietary hardware and software.

the reflective screen coating is nice, however, because it makes the screen seem brighter. however, in some lighting situations, the glare can consume you.

more to come...

i saw that.

i had four main reasons:
- i wasn't completely satified with the build quality
- i wasn't sure if the screen was bright enough for me
- i didn't like the fact that i recieved my laptop 2 months after i ordered it: i was getting old technology; by the time i got it, the price had dropped significantly
- i wasn't ready to spend over $1,000 USD on something. i still have some hobo spirit in me.
