i want it, because i can't get 3d accel to run in linux. i hate ati but i have no money to upgrade my old p4 to a nice amd x2 64 bit with pci-e and an NVIDIA card.
i'm scared of vista. i'm still a 2k fanboy (except for their wifi support).

I'm looking forward to see what MS will get right with Vista, and if it will even come close to outweighing what they get wrong.

Why is transparency such a "cool" thing now-a-days, anyway? I must be one of the few who thinks it's a waste of resources to make windows see-through.

(Oh ... and I'm with asemi as well. I really am looking forward to see what gets done correctly.)

I've never been a fan of transparency either, but I have to admit when I have four or five Terminal windows open, it's nice to have them transparent so I can see what I have open in my browser behind them.
I've decided I'm doing a major upgrade in the next few months...
probably a conroe E6300 OCd and a gigabyte mobo. and a new pcie vid card... ew.

I have liked XP because it has been stable for me but I hate all the unnecessary bells and whistles, and I'm sure vista will be worse in that regard. They should have a windows lite. I don't need a fucking animated dog to help me search for files.
I have been running on the Vista Betas (and stolen longhorn/vista iso's) for quite a while and I am pretty happy with everything they have done with it so far. My only complaint is the lack of OpenGL support disallowing the use of half of my more favored games. Supposedly this is now ATI's fault for not including it in their driver, but they would have in included it long ago had MS not been pussyfooting around the OGL issue for so long. Either way it's still a good OS so far.
They definately got rid of that fucking dog. The search is more iTunes style now.

Ugh. "More iTunes style"!
How is the GUI configurability? Can you turn anything off? You know, like the transparency?

Vista = MS answer to OS X

(Vista && OS X) == waste_of_my_time ;
But I guess I'll have to learn to deal with them, it's not as if I can use *BSD 24/7. :(
*sucks it up*
I'll give Vista a try. Maybe there's some configuring I can do...

Have you played in OS X much? I can't stand it. I can never find anything I want. I end up trying to use the Console and get pissed there too. Apple made config files where they are supposed to be, but neglect to tell you that they REALLY use secret hidden config files you can't find. I mean what the hell?
One bonus is all the networking features over System 9. Bless unix.

I have to use OS X constantly in my video classes. I've never been able to use a Mac without having to reboot it several times. Unless I do nothing but open up Internet Explorer or Safari, but every now and then something will kill that. GRR.
