that brings up an interesting argument.. live vs stereo music. for me, rock and hip-hop are best in the studio, mainly because of horrible recording quality and annoying mannerisms (esp. in hip-hop...)

whereas live jazz recordings are awesome.

well it just depends on the quality of the recording i guess. there are some good quality boots out there, but even if its not that good of quality, i am listening to something they recorded in the 70s that not many people have heard. its sort of like stepping back in time for me and the quality is just something that goes along with it. I am talking about classic rock like led zeppelin and pink floyd, when their live recording technology wasnt the greatest. nowadays some live recordings are as good as the studio recording.
