recently released a drm-free video of a performance of new material for pretty cheap on his website. he also wrote a little thing asking people not to torrent it.
he also
answered questions on reddit which was interesting to read, particularly if you've seen his tv show or want to read his thoughts on torrenting. I like this guy. and it's cool that he's releasing something for relatively cheap and with no bullshit like selling it on itunes.
I bought the video and laughed until tears were in my eyes eight minutes in. worth five bucks.

People of Earth (minus the ones who don't give a shit about this): it's been amazing to conduct this experiment with you. The experiment was: if I put out a brand new standup special at a drastically low price ($5) and make it as easy as possible to buy, download and enjoy, free of any restrictions, will everyone just go and steal it? Will they pay for it? And how much money can be made by an individual in this manner?
so I guess he's made around $200,000 profit since making it available three days ago. less than he would have been paid by a big company, but it's been three days.
and
I really hope people keep buying it a lot, so I can have shitloads of money.
just finished watching it. hilarious.

heh
rev: I'm not downloading it. This is one example what should be commonplace but isn't, and it's probably worth the $5 (judging from asemi's post alone). I just found the fact it was up on TPB with a bunch of seeders AND a note explaining why it's up there amusing. I don't really mind one way or another if people download larger movies or TV shows, or something that's just impossible to find, but this isn't the case here. Makes me wish I had $5, though. Guess I'll
wait.
it sounds like he practically made it himself.
when 90%+ of the sticker price isn't going to support media companies' overhead and profit, i'm happy to put in cash.
louis ck said something funny on reddit: re the torrent description, to the effect that the guy who wrote it made it sound like it was sooo painful for him to upload it but he just had to do it.
this clip where he honors george carlin is also worth watching. shit made me cry.
