call me ridiculous but, this bro's border security outline is more comprehensive than any of his other points. I really don't think this needs to be on the agenda, let alone at the top of any list of issues for a president.
* Double the number of border patrol agents over the next five years.
* Increase detention space in order to end "catch-and-release".
* Build 700 miles of border fencing and 350 miles of vehicle barriers along the Southern border.
* Fund 370 miles of triple-layered fencing and 461 miles of vehicle barriers along the nation's southwest border.
* Deploy cutting-edge technology including cameras, sensors, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to patrol the border for illegal border crossers.
* Implement a tough, smart border security strategy in order to gain operational control of the border.
* Worksite Enforcement is Essential. We will fail to stop illegal immigration until we prove that living and working here illegally is not an option.
* We must enable all law enforcement to identify and quickly remove criminal illegal aliens.
* A secure, fraud-resistant ID must be the foundation of a robust worksite enforcement system that requires every new employee to be screened for valid work authorization.
* Interior and worksite enforcement are essential for homeland security and national security.
* Increase cooperation with state and local authorities to enforce our immigration laws.
* Implement an Electronic Employment Verification System that holds employers accountable for knowingly hiring unauthorized workers.
* Prohibit employers convicted of knowingly hiring illegal immigrants from being eligible to receive government contracts.
* Allow the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to share information helpful to law enforcement investigations against illegal immigrants.

he really hates the illegals

the law is no protection
his website is missing the section about why all of those extreme anti-illegal immigration measures are necessary.

I am torn on illegal immigrants. I love mexicans... they are like the new irish. They do shit work, they do it well, and they're dedicated to the fundamentals of the american dream of a better life for themselves. They really do contribute to our economy.
I want them to succeed.
But, I know that we can't support them all and if we keep trying to push them out instead of addressing the problems that are causing them to come here, we'll simply create tragedy.
It's a problem there is no immediate solution to, and will definitely grow worse for the time being. But, worse than that... no one seems to want to address this problem in any realistic way.
It makes me want to drink.
> I know that we can't support them all
how do we support them?
"instead of addressing the problems that are causing them to come here"
how do we do that too, isn't it for prosperity that they come? Prosper less?
oh wait i know i know amero!
i think people think that the united states has a pie of a certain size. and if more people come here, everyone gets a smaller slice.
but i claim that when more people come during the productive part of their life (e.g., mexicans in their teens-twenties-thirties), they put more in than they take out. in other words: they are supporting us.

maybe if the majority of americans started to work hard and not only doing enough to get by for the maximum pay they would get a bigger piece of the pie.

Lucas in a sense yes, but there is a finite amount of housing. Additionally there is the impact on bank loans and interest rates caused by an increasing population of lower class. Also, you are increasing a population of people who are basically unskilled labor lacking even a basic education. Addressing the needs of these folks as they establish themselves and grow as a community is something that impacts us all. Is our slice of the american pie getting smaller? In some cases sure... in some cases it's getting easier to eat and more delicious... in other cases it has taco fritters in it and people are just confused... It's a bad analogy =P.
As for Amero, I like the idea. Actually I wish we'd just annex Mexico. There's no reason to be building a giant wall with our neighbors... not when they are for the most part really great people. We should be trying to work with them and establish a union of nations that can compete with the EU, and that goes for south american nations such as brazil and argentina as well. We're all neighbors... we should start acting like a community.
> there is a finite amount of housing
i'm convinced that the market price takes care of this.
> there is the impact on bank loans and interest rates caused by an increasing population of lower class
interest rates aren't homogeneous, thankfully. so who cares?
> you are increasing a population of people who are basically unskilled labor lacking even a basic education
no, they already exist as unskilled, uneducated labor. they come here, pay taxes, and get things like education.
> these folks as they establish themselves and grow as a community is something that impacts us all
i agree; it impacts us. but i think it's pretty simple. not entirely simple, but simple.
we let them in at minimal cost. unskilled labor in the u.s. goes up drastically, and the real wage for unskilled labor plummets. suddenly, more immigration isn't as desirable because they can't make as much here anymore. unfortunately, the wage drop has also hurt americans who make a living as unskilled laborers. so we pull some tax revenue off of the consumers of unskilled labor and give it to the american unskilled laborers.
there's my formulation
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
just see how well "pulling tax revenue off of the consumers of unskilled labor" goes over as a political platform! :)
well, the net change in price will be minimal.. so they shouldn't care
politics is silly, though. the public is too stupid to understand economics and too lazy to try

lucas I honestly think your formulation is overly simplistic, and you are ignoring a wide range of problems.
apparently brownback is dropping out... wtf.

No there is not. Lower class citizens tend to move to apartments and non-permanent housing. Numerous studies have also shown that bank loans in general are still racially biased, with WASP's getting the majority of "the slice". The people defaulting are your own.
