jage does a good job with his room:

I would love to have a room like that.

that does look nice. could use a little color on the walls though :).
@lucas: what about my room? i'd say it's pretty minimal.
true.. post up some pictures..!

I also figured out that pretty much any house i'm going to find i will have to let the air out of my tires to drive it in.

haha.
i'm moving into graduate housing soon, and i'm trying to decide between furnished and unfurnished. caitlin has my table and chairs and couch. i could:
a) let caitlin keep that stuff, go furnished
b) let caitlin keep that stuff, move in with my bed, end table, and book shelf
c) get the stuff from caitlin and live slightly more comfortably
i'm leaning toward (b) or (c).
be a minimalist larz, get a ceramic pot for clothing and thats all you need.
asemisldkfj

how often do you use the couch and table and chairs? I'd vote to go with b but get something like a desk that you can sit at. or something comfy like the couch if you'd rather not use your bed for lounging.
word
i'll just get a desk. woo! unfurnished!

haha awesome. I own way too much of the furniture that's in my apartment right now. I'm probably going to end up getting rid of a lot of it whenever I end up moving rather than transporting it.
Come to think of it, the coffee table, tv, and entertainment center came out of my old house. . . yes, they were there when I moved in :)
someone already took the unfurnished apartment. so i took a furnished apartment on the 8th floor. pictures soon.

I am in a minimizing mood. I think I'll clean out my closet today and reevaluate the worth of all my possessions.

good links, nestor.

this is going quite well.
asemisldkfj

- clothes to give away in bags
- more hangers for stuff in closet
- less cluttered closet
- less bed sheets
- organized bookshelf into fiction (by authors last name) and then non-fiction (first by rough category in order of dewey decimal number [e.g., 00* for computer books, 51* for math, 52* for science] then by title)
- recycled a ton of manuals, warranties, etc.
- desk drawers organized and de-cluttered
- took everything possible (shoes, blankets, etc.) out from under bed
- getting rid of stupid huge photo printer/scanner/copier that I never use
that's about it! I'm still not done.

good link, dp. I only have one stack of paper on my desk and it's bad news. usually I just let it stack up for months until it gets ugly and I sort through it. most of it is just stupid stuff like bank statements that I need to file. I need a filing cabinet for this.
asemi, why don't you use 'library of congress' sorting?
what clothes are you getting rid of?
--
i also need to buy a fire/water proof file safe with a nice lock. oh yeah and a paper shredder, it's the main reason i have piles of things.
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
I know the rough Dewey numbers by heart so I can sort and find stuff without learning a new system. eventually I want to label all my books and catalog them. not until I have way more though.
a bunch of clothes: long-sleeved shirts, old pants some of which don't fit, a sweatshirt or two. nothing exciting really.
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
I kind of wish I bought a file safe instead of the one I got.

there is nothing visible on my floor now except for my shredder, trash can, and laundry basket (which is mostly hidden behind a chair). no more power strips and power cords on the floor! this is nice. I will take pics probably tomorrow.
oh and the coffee maker is now in my room. I think I'll set the timer on it to make coffee before I wake up in the morning.

Okay, I'm moving so I started packing everything up.
Clothes all fit into one duffel bag (though I put the nicer stuff in a separate suitcase to keep it tidy), and all personal items (save TV, bass, banjo, amp) fit inside my trunk. My move will take one trip in a car. :)
that's great.

Your tree is askew :-o
The room looks awesome!
didn't notice before, but that's a really cool frame :D
yeah, i'd cut down on the clutter as well. it's not bad, but it could be better.
nice asemi.
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
what would you guys consider clutter? I'd like to have pens and stuff in a drawer, but I don't have room for it. I could take a few things off of the top of my bookshelf. and keeping a keyboard, notebook, and coffee maker stuff on top of the drawers under my desk is less than ideal.
ps - the postcard in the frame is from lucas!
i sent you a postcard?
edit: oh, yeah. right. :D

haha, it was a while back. over three years ago! the postmark is june, 2005 I think.
aw i thought you would have taken care of the wires dangling in 2 and 3.
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
they're both pretty much out of sight, dp. the one under the desk is kind of tough. the macbook wire is always going to be out because I move all around the room with it.
nah i don't mean the macbook power cable, the other ones in 2 and 3 though.

I will see what I can do.

He lives in Toronto, too
that's from the g&m, our national newspaper of record, sort of like the nyt in the states. it's actually a great publication, except the music reviews which are AWFUL. design is spectacular too, i think it won some international awards when it was redesigned a few years back.
it has a nice 12" format too, slightly narrower than berliner.

i got rid of my desktop computer, lcd, keyboard, mouse, and (4) 10k RPM SCSI drives. (3) 18GB (1) 4.5GB. also rollerblades and a helmet. i also brought portagrinder to work. i'm going to sell the battery and recycle it.

I am cleaning a lot today. for some reason I had been keeping bank statements and pay stubs beyond the most recent ones so I shredded all of those. I went through a huge stack of mail on my desk too. I listed a few things on ebay/craigslist. I think I'll get rid of my printer/scanner finally; it takes up too much room on my desk for the amount that I use it. I'm gonna go through my drawers now.
phi_
