on another note, im suprised at how well my computer handles all this work. I have it folding in the background which takes up 55 % of both my cpu's and i can still play tf2 with no problem.

the econ. dept. gave me a P4, 2.4GHz, which folds 24/7. i just joined the team when i made that post.
how bit is the WU that your folding? my first one was 200, the one my comp is working on now is 1500

i think it would be cool to estimate how much carbon the folding@home project is putting into the atmosphere.
normally, my office computer would just sit there and idle, but now the fan is constantly going. i'm assuming it consumes more electricity (plus i don't shut it off anymore). electricity production creates pollution. i wonder what the total effect is.

you know you need to start up a second instance of the client in console mode using -local clp to get it to use a second core / cpu?
it's annoying.
there's apparently a gpu client for my video card at home though. I could theoretically have dual gpus + dual cores going on that box.
but the real monsters on there are the 6 core massively floating point oriented cell processors. fucking PS3s are wooping everyones asses in the machine types.

the cell is a beautiful design. it's too bad game devs refuse to adopt it. it's one of those moments where the economical decision makes no technological sense.

lr- i'm in the same situation as you without the luxury of a dedicated folder. does leaving it running it all the time deplete any performance? right now it is just on screensaver. this is my overclocked conroe, not the thinkpad.
i dont think it depletes the performance at all. I have my extra computer folding all the time but i dont have a screen saver on, i just have it set to turn the monitor off after 30 minutes. also, i have my main computer folding all the time but it only runs at 50 percent cpu usage most of the time since im doing stuff on it a lot.
