lately i've been putting a lot of energy into my personal website. if people can give me feedback or suggestions, i'd really appreciate it. i want criticism real real bad. i want to keep improving it.
consider:
- the design
- the interface
- the content
- the flow
- the usability
- blog format/permalinks/pagination
- project pages (flow, length, ...)
http://www.wingedleopard.net/lucas/
much appreciated.

I still have to scroll a tiny bit horizontally because of the vertical scrollbar :). on pages with no vertical scrollbar I have no horizontal one either.
did you code the blog software yourself? any way I could take a look at the code?
> scroll a tiny bit horizontally
this really frustrates me, because the design has an extra 50-100px on 1024x768. what resolution are you using, and what browser. and if you don't mind, can you post a screenshot?
> did you code the blog software yourself?
yes.
> any way I could take a look at the code?
yeah! i'm working to make the code more portable, then i'll open-source it. it will go here:
http://code.google.com/p/wlw/
note: there's already some blog software there you can check out. it's the code for
http://www.wingedleopard.net/wlwlv1/ and
http://www.wingedleopard.net/wlwlv2/ .

thanks for the shot. should i really make my design smaller?

the law is no protection
oh and thanks for the code! I'll look at it soon. I've been feeling the urge to code again lately.

asemi: thoughts on this? do most site designs fit into the window well?

oh huh I missed your post after I posted that screenshot, sorry :).
I think you should make it smaller. my browser window is something like 900px wide, so this is gonna cause problems for people running 800x600.
most of the content of the posts seems like it would look nicer in slightly less wide post boxes anyway.
> this is gonna cause problems for people running 800x600
2% of my visitors have 800x600 resolutions or smaller. either i'm going to make it fill up 1024px or fill up 800px. and i don't want to make it that small (<800px with a scrollbar).
> most of the content of the posts seems like it would look nicer in slightly less wide post boxes anyway.
that's true. how much do you want off? 20px? 40px? or do you suggest more?
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
either one of those would work for me, I think.
personally, I'd do 40 px.
k, i took off 40px. look better?

looks good. that's all for now :).
i just updated the cv and changed all the fonts to sans-serif.

I think I liked the serifed fonts better.
:/
they looked really shitty on ff + xp. are you on safari?
asemisldkfj

nah, ff on windows 7 rc.
I actually finished my website after working almost 4 years on it:
http://www.carpetsmoker.net
What can I say, I'm sort of a perfectionist ... :-/
I got the PHP code and HTML/CSS done now, I'm currently looking at improving the typography. I also have a bunch of content I want to get into shape and put online.
cool. bluet was of great help to me with regard to css and typography. rectangular has good knowledge of all that as well, and nestor is good with design and typog.
good luck!
i was going to suggest that you give bluet credit for his image, but then i remembered that bluet often releases his work into the public domain. :)
I added permalinks to the headers:
http://www.carpetsmoker.net/code/mailtray/index2.php
Those of us who've used Python can probably see where I got the inspiration :D
In any case, the problem is that when you use of the the permalinks, you won't see the actual header itself, it will be just above the screen.
(I had the same problem with the `Back to top' link, I worked around it)
Does anyone know how this can be fixed?

He didn't put it anywhere as far as I know ...
Can you actually place stuff in public domain in Norway? (You can't in the Netherlands ...)
I thought I was done, but now I added the permalink thing and the HTML is even more of a kludge with lots of room for simple typos ... I think I need to do something about that now :-(
I'm never done ...
> He didn't put it anywhere as far as I know ...
Only on your server. :)
Actually, you put in on my laptop, gamestation, and server...
Oh yeah, that's right.

oui. :)
You don't like Jonathan?
Over here it's easy, just two names ... Never quite understood the whole middle name thing ...

... and let the Earth be silent after ye.
That's because we're 50% better than you.
Actually, I have four names (Marinus Gerardus Petrus Tournoij is my full name), so that makes me come out on top ;)
See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Given_name#Christian_name
and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_name
I want to get only one name to fuck with form designers.
just eliminate the space! :D
Teller has just one name...

I am not a robot...
My mom writes her first name as "Jo Anne" which is really a combination of her first and middle names. Hence the space. I think Jo is cute for a girl, I'm not sure why she chose to go that route.
My middle name is boring and overused with girls. I never reference it.
My grandfather's first name was Jo ...

So was her Uncle's. :)
> I never reference it.
i thought you always go by "bek"--this nickname references it. unless you mean you never use it.
Étrangère
I am not a robot...
...How does Bek reference my middle name?
oops. i must have missed "middle"
did you change your hotmail name? because it used to sport your middle name.
i'm going to typeset
my pro site once i can find a computer on campus that has photoshop and
mercury installed.
i'm very excited to work with this font. i'm going to give that page a lot of personality.
