I love how they tried to launder the church money that was used to buy the intelligent design books:
"His testimony initially included a claim that he did not know where the money had been raised to donate sixty copies of Of Pandas and People to the school's library. On hearing that the money had been raised in William Buckingham's church, and directed through Bonsell's father so that it might be donated anonymously, Judge Jones elected to take over the examination of Bonsell himself, questioning him for about ten minutes."
I also liked the inclusion on the part of the prosecution of religious people opposed to ID because it created a God v. Science mentality that they didn't like.

Here's another thing I don't understand. Why must God and Evolution be mutually exclusive? Darwin was a religious man and never made a claim as to where everything STARTED, just how it changed. How do they know God didn't start the Evolutionary domino game? Or the big-bang?
because, in the beginning, god created the world and man (in his image). he didn't create monkeys that turned into men. unless god is a monkey... i like where you're going with this!
i think generally religious people feel that science steals man's dignity. through christianity, life is holy. but in science, it's just another mess of evolution, protein, and procreation.

Makes sense, lucas. Never thought about it like that... the second paragraph that is. But why couldn't the "mess of ..." be Holy? It doesn't have to be as sterile as it is perceived.
Well, what the fuck do I care? I view Religion as a crutch for people who can't stand on their own. I guess I just want people to be more rational about an irrational belief...
don't we all...

There are a lot of people who believe in so-called theistic evolution. Also, I remember reading that the pope deemed evolution "worthy of study" or something like that. While I think they do conflict somewhat as lucas said, I would rather see people try to justify a contradiction than teach religion as science to impressionable children.
