This article brings up some interesting points:

I've been trying to rack my brain for a way to keep the higher ratio/faster downloads with a public tracker. . . or a way to keep from being easily identifiable with the torrent you are downloading.
Granted, anyone who has that torrent open can see the ip addresses associated with it, I'm just looking for a way to keep that un-attached with your email/etc.

we used to use a box in collo in germany... web upload the torrent, it downloaded the file for you, seeded, and then you'd download the file off the webserver in germany.
many people contribute to the machines existence... and you walk away clean.

what's your ultimate goal? if someone has your IP address it doesn't really matter if they have your email, because they can just go straight to your ISP with the IP address and get your contact information or have the ISP contact you.
nny: are any logs kept on the server? if the server was administered by someone you really trusted this could be a nice setup. ultimately though, it has to be hosted somewhere and the hosting company is bound by whatever laws might require them to fork over log data if there's evidence of illegal activity. how do you copy the files from the server to your computer (e.g., ftp, sftp)?
oh, now that I'm reading the article I see why email address is important :).
I was reading somewhere (not sure if it was that article I posted or not) but the pirate bay kept all things that could identify someone in volatile memory. I suppose this would require tracker software, not just php scripts.
yep, it was in that article. pretty neat.

wouldn't running a tracker on /dev/shm take care of it if the server were powered off?
