this task is so difficult.
i have to keep all of the chicago and strunk/white rules in mind. i also have to think about the reader and what may be vague, and add the necessary footnotes.
it's like i have to read while constantly asking myself, ``is this perfect?''
it drives an ocd person like me mad!
this is handy (if you're a nerd and enjoy citing the rules like me):

I kind of love writing. I've been typing up a very extensive outline for a paper I need to work on over the weekend and I'm kind of going nuts. I keep saying "oh damn that's good" out loud to myself. and coaxing huge PDFs to finish downloading. it's kind of fun getting in that research/writing groove though. makes me feel very very productive!!

oh, and this list is great.
out of curiosity, who the hell is Strunk?
I guess I could ask the same of Diana Hacker, whose book me and my mom have used on numerous occasions to settle grammar disputes.

awesome.
I just put in a solid three hours of research and writing. felt fucking great. now I'm gonna eat for the second time today.
> now I'm gonna eat for the second time today.
this week i learned this: don't take eating for granted. enjoy it. :)

@lucas: yeah, i was short on money a couple of weeks ago and didn't eat for 3 days. after day 2 i felt like i could go forever, at that point the feeling of hunger was pretty dull.

why'd you learn it this week, lucas?
I don't take it for granted, I just forget to do it for a while sometimes :).
because i couldn't for a few days.
> after day 2 i felt like i could go forever, at that point the feeling of hunger was pretty dull.
kinda the same for me, except that i couldn't get it off my mind a lot of the time.

my mom got me a couple of sweet grammar books for Christmas. Anne Stilman's Grammatically Correct and another book called Eats, Shoots & Leaves (forget the author).
eats, shoots & leaves is good
pretty intense though

I've read the preface and introduction. so far, so good.
intense how?
well, the author is a punctuation fiend
intense!

haha, that's a good thing!
some of the humor is making me think, "come on, lighten up," but I'm thinking it might be a little tongue-in-cheek.
'cause I'm definitely pretty picky about grammar, love knowing about it, and bad grammar is very off-putting to me, but I think that knowledge and proper use of grammar rules and punctuation can coexist peacefully with "online-speak." just because I say "brb" and don't capitalize stuff all the time on the internet, depending on my mood, doesn't mean I can't write nearly flawlessly!
same here. it just takes disconnecting online writing from formal writing (and maybe speaking too...)
when people don't do that then you get in trouble.

*insert that quote about the virtues of being able to hold two opposing ideas in your head at once*
whoa sounds neat. hit me up

hahah.. that's a pretty brilliant quote

I've always loved it :).
king of similar, but a little clichéd is "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds," by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
as soon as i get back to kingston it will enter the typeset realm!
i'm so glad i'm not a novelist (yet? :( ).
this is so continually daunting.
