kevin (my former roommate who worked at micron) told me that it doesn't matter which brand you buy, because flash memory is a commodity and it's traded in bulk between manufacturers and brands.
but i don't think this is entirely true. it's obvious that there are different classes of cards with respect to speed. and it's likely that there are different qualities.
maybe the best question is: does any brand consistently sell above average quality flash memory?

good question mine died recently
it was an iomega but it has served me up until this point. I think the point of failure is the actual usb connector, rather than disk failure.

warranty and brand reputation are important to me. I'll go with any of the big names: Viking, Kingston, Crucial, Lexar, Sandisk, whatever. as long as it's not Buffalo or something weird like that.
but kingston is the slut of the memory industry!
lexar, sandisk, and crucial are all reputable (although crucial isn't known for flash memory).

yeah I guess I was thinking more just regular old memory :).
what's wrong with Kingston?
if it's a name that seems reputable and the warranty is good (which usually means lifetime) then I'm set.
g.skill? sounds gangser

nothing is wrong - what are you scared of?
i have a sandisk and a kingston, both have worked very well and have not failed me yet.

I think my usb flash drive is a no-name brand. my dad got some 64 MB one from work like five years ago and I've been using it since. after diy rehousing it, of course.
