I'm currently using a wrt54g however I will be leaving this one at home when I move. The other thing I need is something that supports more then 10 ports forwarded.

Wish I could get my Cisco 806 to perform correctly.....

i actually like my wrt54g, it's loaded up with dd-wrt which is handy. i've been thinking about going to openwrt... so yeah, the router you've already got.

first one latency just takes off and responds at 2000+ and the second one the wireless becomes unreliable with packet loss

just get in with tolton and i'm sure he'd hook you up. the problem is that they're shutting down the networking program next year (probably)...

damn that sucks but i could kind of tell that it would happen sooner or later since the classes were getting smaller.

openbsd has pf.

pf is awesome.

ergo openbsd is the bestest router evar.

IOS is an enormous pain in the ass, and most of their hardware is crap.

Hi, so I've been looking for a router solution that I can set up when I move since I have pretty much the same issue that ozzy had (past tense, sorry oz about your situation!!).

The cheaper route would be going for the WRT54G[S,T] and that looks ok, but I want a customizable solution (not saying dd-wrt isn't, but open/netbsd are preferable). I've narrowed it down a bit to a few different boards for a wireless router:

linksys wrt54gl ~$65
alix2c0 ~$116
alix2c1 ~$121
alix2c2 ~$132

routerboard 532 ~$170

soekris net4826 ~$200

I think the alix boards win. I've also been looking for a combination set of boards to make a wireless ap/router in the pc/104 formfactor, I can't really find a good way to put it together without it being overly time intensive. Here's a portal for pc/104 bus board manufacturers, so that maybe you can find some:

yeah just double check:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices

only thing that sucks is that it's hard to find which version you're getting when you buy :(

the law is no protection
should I install dd-wrt on my wrt54gl? I haven't really looked into the alternative firmwares because I just use it as a wireless AP not a router.

it it any better than the linksys firmware though? I'm sure it would work fine, I just don't know if I care enough to do it.
