i have a gore-tex xcr shell, i'm never going back (to the stuff i had before). mind you i got it on 50% sale
for gore-tex pro jackets at msrp, marmot starts at $375, arc'teryx at $400, and mountain hardware at $425.
i guess i could go with gore-tex paclite or gore-tex performance, but it's not too much cheaper.
