firefox on my x60 is pretty slow to respond - not in terms of downloading pages but in terms of ui response (e.g. ctrl-t new tabs, typing in the address bar, sometimes even typing in text boxes like this one!)
anyone have any advice? i don't think ie is slow like this...
that's strange, what version are you using? I only really notice slowdown when my ram is running out, like when I have lightroom, irfanview, office, and virus scan going, or if I have had it open for a few weeks :p
I'm on the 2.0 version, and I did some optimization when I started off, but not very much.

I also got rid of the menu bar, all I have now is a list of bookmarks in folders, and a stumbleupon bar.
yeah i have slimmed my firefox up pretty hardcore

I'm using about 500mb of memory, ffox is eating 205m alone... odd.
looks nice and slim :)
personally though, I don't find the back and forward buttons useful, and it seems to slow down navigation for me dragging the cursor up there all the time. I either use the left/right page button next to the arrow keys if I want to navigate, or I use backspace.
If my firefox eats way too much memory I just close it and restart. I wonder why yours is consuming a bunch, did you just start up?
wow, never knew those buttons were back/forward. removed!
imma restart right now.
here's to keeping it real!
I use the search bar often too. Just so I don't have to move my cursor much in this case as well I typically use key combos:
alt+d for address bar
ctrl+k for the search bar

haha I just noticed you still have hoodwink'd, have you seen many comments around the net with it recently? I have greasemonkey too still, but I only really have flickr stuff.
i haven't seen many at all. sometimes i leave one on appropriate pages though.

ctrl+l (that's a lowercase L) works for address bar as well. can't live without it (well, command+l on a Mac).
alt+left arrow and alt+right arrow are also back and forward, respectively, IIRC.
i find that keeping firebug enabled lags out my ui. are you running that?
no. my addons:
adblock plus
better gmail 2
fancy numbered tabs
foxmarks
remember the milk for gmail
tiny menu
maybe that's enough right there. :)
anyone check out firefox 3 beta yet? gecko 1.9 what!!
whut
nope
I like the new firefox already, its crazy! Download now!
this post has been archived.
just started using ff3, had to tweak both the user agent string and a couple of extension booleans to allow my old plugins to work and to let me access the msubonline website for online classes. otherwise it's pretty slick.
fav ff3 feature: alt-text is represented on more than one line, key for xkcd!

on my macbook pro, randomly firefox will pause for ~30 seconds and give me a spinning beachball of death... completely random. Didn't used to happen until the 2.0.0.10 series and above.
well, since the reformat of my x60 i haven't had any problems.
im done with ffox. acted weird and slow tonight and i've heard enough good things about chrome. now to tweak it so it behaves just like my old ffox.. :(

Firefox is weird, but when it's working on my Windows computers at work it's great! on OS X, not so much. when it's deciding to crash randomly all the time, not so much either. but hey, Opera doesn't support SOCKS proxies and Chrome is kind of ugly and weird, so whaddayagonnado.
