each key has a top cover (which may vary in size) and a main key (which are all the same size). i managed to use super glue to fix the chipped key. then i swapped it with the main key for "pause / break" which i probably use the least often. it should hold. but if not, i'll get some epoxy. solved! :D

How much for shippiung to the Netherlands? I actually looked at some frames MC Esher posters the other day and they were around 100 euro (!!)

The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket
The Murders in the Rue Morgue (Contains all three Dupin stories)

> I bought that DVD this weekend
merde! i coaxed my sister into taking it. i could have asked her to mail it to you!

how much to ship these individually to the u.s.? i might like one or both, depending on how much it would cost.
can you give more details on them? thanks!
> I also have some spare Dutch books ... But I don't think there will be a lot of people interested in those here ...
i've tried to learn some dutch in the past, but the resources available here are pretty awful. have any books for someone new to the language?
> how much to ship these individually to the u.s.? i might like one or both, depending on how much > it would cost.
Depends, with or without casing? It's based on weight ... I don't have a scale :o
Prices according to website postal office:
0-500 g. € 7,40
500-2000 g. € 17,76
I sent a few videocards to DrJ @ daemonforums some time ago, IIRC there are a few euro extra for customs charge or something ... Can't find anything about that on the site right now.
> can you give more details on them? thanks!
The PIII 800 was my home server until three or four weeks ago, no problems getting more than a year uptime. IIRC it was a compaq machine originally, but I put it in a different casing.
There's no hard drive, I migrated that to my new system, but I have an old 10 or 20 GB lying around if you need one.
One bonus is that the CPU is passive cooling, (the PSU makes quite a bit of noise though)
The biggest downside IMO is the lack of SATA...
I haven't used the the sparcstation in 3 years orso, I used it as test webserver when I was making a website at my previous job, it ran NetBSD and lighttpd, worked pretty well. for this
Only downside is that the hard disk is dead slow, it's a very old 1GB SCSI.
There's room for a second hard disk, note that it's a SCA-80 connection.
IIRC the CPU is a microsparc 110MHz, I expanded the memory to the max (256MB), took quite a bit of work to find the memory btw, it uses 168-pin EDO memory which is pretty rare -- I cannibalized memory from an old Mac PowerPC and compaq server ...
Also note the machine has a special video connection (Forgot what it is called), you can't just connect a normal VGA monitor -- You will either have to install over serial line or network ...
> I've tried to learn some dutch in the past, but the resources available here are pretty awful.
> have any books for someone new to the language?
I have some old books from when I was 10-14 years old, which are not-so-complicated language ... They're not really suited if you're totally new to the language, but may be if you already know a bit and want to expand ...
how much ram does the piii 800mhz have? i'm assuming it has at least two pci slots?
i'm nostalgic for a sparcstation, but really it wouldn't be useful to me. so i should probably pass on it.
2000 grams is only 4.4 pounds. i bet they weigh 10 to 20 pounds each.
> special video connection (Forgot what it is called)
sync-on-green! :D many samsung lcds support sync-on-green. unless it uses component video.
> They're not really suited if you're totally new to the language
i better pass, then.
thanks for the offers!
> how much ram does the piii 800mhz have?
There are two slots, currently it had 1x128M and 1x256M (384M) SD-RAM
> 2000 grams is only 4.4 pounds. i bet they weigh 10 to 20 pounds each.
When shipped without PSU and case it will probably be under 2KG ...
> i'm assuming it has at least two pci slots?
Three. And one AGP.
> sync-on-green! :D many samsung lcds support sync-on-green. unless it uses component video.

13w3 is sync on green ... kinda.
"The 13W3 connector can be converted into a standard VGA connector using cables and adapters that are commonly available. This allows modern multisync monitors, which are common on today's computers, to be used with these workstations as long as they are sync-on-green compatible. Likewise, as many newer Sun monitors support multisync, similar cables can be used to connect them to modern computers."

Ouch, my roommate and his friends say it's about seven pounds, and according to usps it's about $50-$60. I have no accurate way to measure it right now though so it might be less.

so what broke is what
this page calls a "key stem." they sell them for a $1. i might just replace it so i don't have to worry about it breaking in the future as the parts become even more rare.

HAHA, that's great Lucas.
btw. I have one of those Xircom cards, I used it on my old P1 notebook with 32MB RAM, but newer versions (5 and newer) of freebsd need more kernel memory and when I loaded it, the system complained about running out of kernel memory or something ... :-/
I recompiled the kernel. Took a day orso.
that's odd.
it's a great card. 16-bit pc cards are the way to go (older laptops support them). also, it's dongle-free! :D
it worked! i walked by today, and the items weren't there.
but they left the posters up. :(

i like it. very big-brotherish.

Pine shelf (1' x 4') and 2" x 2", good condition, -- make a bookshelf! (Bozeman: MSU Campus)
I built a shelf/stand for my bonsai trees. I no longer need it.
You could use this wood as a shelf or whatever you want! The shelf is in very good quality--one side has a few screw holes, the other side has no holes. It is stain quality (all knots are intact). It is only one shelf; I have pictures of both sides below.
Please do not take this if you just want wood for a bonfire. This is a good quality shelf plank. Please use it as a plank/shelf for something. I suggest you stain it. If you want some, I have some beautiful stain. I'll give you some if you'd like.
I also have some random, used 2"x 2" pine wood that you may find useful for such a project.
Cheers!

* the wealth of nations (smith)
* an essay on the principle of population (malthus)
* principles of political economy and taxation (ricardo)
* a new view of society (owen)
* principles of political economy (mill)
* capital (marx)

got the netra x1 yesterday! going to pxe boot openbsd tonight, hopefully. can I boot openbsd via pxe from an ubuntu dhcp server?
> can I boot openbsd via pxe from an ubuntu dhcp server?
Yes.
But only if you download and install all OpenBSD binaries and libraries. You will also need to put the OpenBSD kernel in /bsd
Once you're done with that, you'll need to remove some of the Ubuntu stuff I'm afraid.
In the end this will leave you with a pretty good install though :-)

i don't know. the easiest way to do the install would be to install a PATA IDE CD-ROM to boot from.

toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
after your other tread i'm not sure it is hot :)
yeah, it had other problems, too. i was trying to view some photos with irfanview, and they would take seconds to render. it was using 50% cpu. so i tried the windows picture viewer. the same thing happened. that thing is garbage.
oh yeah, i also tried to enable the quick launch toolbar. i got an error "cannot create folder." so weird, especially on a fresh install.
