what are peoples views on macs? i would be using it for mainly organizing, editing, and publishing my photos. im a newb at computers so any input would be great on this. thanks
views on macs? hah!
I believe Macs (and Mac OS X) are the only truly _usable_ computers around. Heck, even my gentoo Linux distribution is easier to use than Windows XP.
I heart my Powerbook G4.

looks pretty slick. if editing is what you want, macs are the way to go.
the new macbook pro is pretty fast. the old g4 was horribly slow, and any recent pentium m could easily put the g4 to shame. so the new one is an improvement.
the problem is that they are still way overpriced. you're paying for a pretty case and a pretty os. and that's not to say that the laptop and os aren't good. but i think there are alternatives that are definitely worth considering.

I don't understand the big deal with Macs. I think they're pretty difficult to work with on a regular basis. After a semester of Dual-G5s and Final Cut Pro, I became a hardened PC user. Of course, I'm talking about OS X and not the actual computer.
To be honost ive never really liked macs since using em in elementry through high school. But w/e the case I dont really know a whole lot about em now. So here is a link that might give you a little more info pandy

What's there not to like about OS X?
Win XP is f'ing ugly, OS X is f'ing beautiful.
I used to have to restart my Windows machine once or twice EACH DAY as various things would crash for no apparent reason.
All sorts of drivers were not working, including the ones for my graphics card, my printer, and my wireless card.
Plus, the beast is f'ing loud when I turn it on. My Powerbook is whisper-quiet. The only things that crash are programs in beta. And I have never had to restart the machine except for those big system updates.
to me, an os is more than just what i can see. sure, os x is pretty; but os x is slow and clumsy. that's not to mention the pizza wheel of death. but i don't know how it will run on a different architecture with considerably faster hardware.
don't tell me that windows doesn't work. because it does. it just depends on how well you know how to use it.
For me, OS X is a heck of a lot faster than my WinXP machine (3.2GHz, 1GB RAM). Granted, my Powerbook has 2GB of RAM.
I have only ever witnessed the pinwheel of death once, and that was when I was using an ancient iMac (3 years old), with 256mb RAM on an equally old and underpowered network.
To me, Windows XP is slow and clumsy beyond belief. Unless, of course, one does not install anything or connect to the internet.

I've never had much of a problem with Windows XP. However, I was forced to use Dual G5s with 2GB of RAM every day for a semester. Not ONE DAY went by that I didn't have to reboot the damned thing. Though, I guess when you start to use all the memory available something bad is bound to happen...
OS X is fugly. All the colors, and shiny-things, and badly designed Finder, (what's up with the stupid widget dashboard bullshit?), and on and on and on and on...
