I am in the market for a new desk. What would you guys recommend?
I am looking for a WIDE workspace. I need room for two 24 inch monitors, my laptop, a couple of desktops underneath, a chair with the highest setting on, and books.
i have two desks. both ikea. word
if it was my money, i'd recommend just looking around town for a desk.. you could probably get a decent desk for mad cheap (as free!) - and reuse something. if that fails go ikea.
for space, durability, and frugality, go the db-route with a large folding table. they can generate static sometimes, though, so maybe get an antistatic mat or try to ground it.
otherwise, i'd go with solid wood. there are some extremely durable laminates out there. solid wood is expensive, but good deals can be had at target and ikea. both of these places have nice furniture at reasonable prices.
going to garage sales, markets, or thrift stores may yield results. you'll spend less money but more time.
lr is all over this
for reference, i have a 'mikael' ikea, and a build-your-own one (you choose the surface and legs).
i didn't explain the laminate issue fully. if you can find an extremely durable laminate or linoleum, then that's fine. but don't get a laminate that will chip. those are awful.

... and let the Earth be silent after ye.
I have a 5' wide folding table like what we had in school. Best desk ever.
i got a carpenter to make mine. :)
nice :o
yeah, just like i drew it.
