right now I listen to most of my music through this:
Sony SCD-CE595 5-disc CD changer -->
Sony STR-DG500 amplifier -->
KLH Model 24s
soon I'll be trying out a
Yamaha CR-620 in place of the STR-DG500. I am expecting it to sound awesome.
nice. i want a tube amp someday 8-D
had a listen to my dad's setup tonight.
the imaging was unbelievable. honestly, i could pick out the 'positions' of each instrument. i had a listen to vinyl and cd and i still prefer cd though :D
just did a major upgrade of my stereo system. still using foobar2000 as my music player on my desktop... through:
coaxial rca digital out from motherboard
audience au24 directional rca
assemblage dac
rocketfish rcas
accuphase e-202 integrated amp
some moderately priced speaker cable
era design 5 monitors
all filtered with a blue circle bc86 power line pillow and a blue circle mr1200 power cleaner.
I'm gonna take some pics tonight. I'm really, really happy with it so far.
I used to just have 3.5mm stereo out (from ac97 onboard audio) to a b&w zeppelin

yes, I want pics.
my setup is viewable
here .
mine is all spread out, the pc is in a closet, dac sits just outside, amp is on a table (power cleaner/filter under that), speakers on opposite sides of the room so i get some imaging
what is a "coaxial rca digital out" connection? is that an s/pdif output of the rca-connector variety?
aye
i'd slice up some faces for a good DAC
> check my latest.
i'm so full of love right now <3
<3
sadly my dac will only accept a maximum of 20-bit, 48kHz data, so the 24-bit 96kHz vinyl rips I've picked up must be downsampled. :(

headphone.com has some DACs. not sure if they're any good.
mine is good - probably cost $500 a couple year ago.
I was really blasting my system on some melvins songs today... twas sweet
i've only had my internal laptop speakers and my er6i as options for six months. i'm craving some good speakers.
maybe sometime this year i'll buy a pair of of the krk
rp5g2 .
this is obscene:
apogee minidacfw
my laptop (which has a usb port) plus this:
behringer
uca202 usb to optical converter ($30)
hosa
opt103 fiber cable ($9)
apogee
minidac 192khz dac ($806)
(2) proco
smm5 5' xlr cable ($14)
(2) krk
rpg52 5" 75w active monitor ($300)
total: $1159
nestor: where do i find cheaper dacs?
sick setup there, you can always go with the smaller 'headphone' dacs - headroom (headphone.com) has some
oh asemi already said that :o
awesome; their micro dac has usb, optical, and coaxial inputs! :D
how about this setup, then?
headroom micro dac ($333)
(2) krk rpg52 5" 75w active monitor ($300)
total: $633
i bet it would be a great match!
instead how about a squeezebox with a pair of those krk rokits?

moved my room around a little bit and I just did a run of speaker wire across my room. nothing new to the setup really, other than a 1/8" headphone to RCA audio adapter so I can hook my iPod or laptop into the amp. crucial for stuff I don't have on CD. I need to get a switch so I can have the CD changer and laptop plugged into the aux jacks at the same time.

oh, and I need a record player too.
the primary reason for updating this thread is hearing my speakers for the first time in a week or so and loving it so much.

I have a record player you can have. You would have to buy a needle, though. And possibly paint it...

All I can remember about it (it was a gift) is that it's yellow. And possibly covered in flowers. I'll take pics next time I'm home :P
I think I may even have the little plastic adaptor that lets you play 45s, if you have any

I am skeptical of this record player already.

any idea what the brand/model are?
i'm buying a pair of krk monitors next week. i'll put it on my credit card and keep it there; i don't care. everyday i play music using my laptop speakers, and i can't stand it anymore.
(2) krk
rpg52 5" 75w active monitor ($300)
i don't know what to do about a dac. i guess i'll just use my laptop's sound card for now. :|
bhphotovideo.com is selling the krk rpg52 for $120 each with free shipping! as soon as they come in stock, i'm going to get a pair for $240. :D
i don't know which to do:
(a) buy the pair from a
reputable dealer like b&h for $240.
(b) buy the pair from
this place and get free cables and stands for $300.

If you'll use the stands, spend the $300
If you already question whether or not you'll use the stands, go with b&h
