the previous thread focused on touring, commuting, camping, and cycling.
this one will focus on fixed-gear bicycling.

i've been running michelin krylion carbon tires as my three-season tires. they are starting to get pretty bare from skidding. i've gotten a couple flats on them this spring, and i've only been out a handful of times on them so far.
it seems that fixies are especially hard on tires because of the skidding, so i'm trying to figure out what tire will hold up to wear, while being pretty cheap.
from what i've read, it comes down to continental gatorskins and specialized armadillos. although both
nashbar.com ($30) and
performancebike.com ($26) sell the vredestein fortezza se which might be a good deal for the price.
recommendations?
asemi: you said you ride gatorskins. do they hold up well with skid stops? have you ridden any other tires?
I don't skid stop all the time since I've got the front brake. if I'm not using the brake I'm probably just resisting to slow down rather than actually skidding. I think these are the only tires I've ridden on a fixed, now that I think about it.
my roommate swears by Vittoria Rubinos or Rubino Pros. he's never gotten a flat on either, but I think he's in a similar boat as me when it comes to stopping.
