i'm interested in building a microatx desktop. i want it to run core 2 duo on lga 775, use an intel chipset, and have a dvi (or hdmi) output.

here's what i found:

Intel Desktop Board DQ35JO
$120 on newegg

Intel Desktop Board DG35EC
$100 on newegg

Intel Desktop Board DG33TL
$115 on newegg

Asus P5E-VM
$130 on newegg

these are the only motherboards on newegg that (1) are microatx, (2) use an intel chipset, and (3) have a digital display output.

wtf are you serious?

I was thinking about building a micro-ATX firewall to replace my 300mhz. I just want something unobtrusive that can sit at the top of my desk.

I was just pricing out a micro-ATX box to replace my server/firewall and I realized that building computers is expensive :(.

anything approaching or over two hundred USD is expensive for me right now :(. and that's just mobo + cpu + psu + case. if I build a new box I want to trick it out with gigabit networking and other cool shit like that.

all of the boards above have gigabit networking.

of course, if you're looking to build a network device, i doubt dvi or hdmi outputs are part of the criteria. then there are many cheaper solutions.

yeah it's no problem finding a suitable motherboard for 50 or so. I don't want anything too high-powered. I'm going to keep an eye out for used stuff on Craigslist or something.z
