the ultimate ttf capitalism thread. what do you need to buy? preferably big-ticket, occupy your mind sort of things.
- new sunglasses: rayban wayfarers, black
- laptop 2.5" hard drive - 250gb preferably
- x60 battery
should i get a 4-cell, (3.55hrs, flush to the back and lighter) or 8-cell (standard one ~7hrs that sticks out)
I think I'm going to buy a new PC, one just for gaming because I am sick of this multi-booting ... I also need a better PC for Ground Branch and Fallout 3 when they're released (End of year) and Duke Nukem Forever *snicker*.
But first I will buy a server for my site.
i'm leaning toward the 4-cell as i am rarely without access to ac for that long. however, the long battery life was one of the things that attracted me to the x60 in the first place...
what kind of server you looking at?

I don't think I need to buy anything right now. I'd like to buy a moped, but those are expensive and not worth it right now.
oh, I know one. a turntable! I have four records and no way to play any of them.
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
I'd get the 4-cell because the other ones are kind of ugly.
you have a stereo, right? you can get a decent turntable for pretty cheap. iirc usb turntables are like $100, so i'd guess lower tech rca ones would be less.
hmmm. i'm not even sure if the slimline battery fits the x60 (it may only fit the x60s).
i've decided against getting a new hd for the x60 - i have a 250gb hd in an enclosure. still need the battery...
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
I kind of want a sweet vintage one. sound quality, build quality, and aesthetics are important (in roughly that order)!
well, since price is no issue, get a vintage linn!
> what kind of server you looking at?
I'm not sure yet, but a Sun/SPARC64 might be nice.
oh. so you aren't renting one. buy list. duh.

Bigger bike. Only going to cost ~USD$5k after trade-in, which isn't bad!
Other than that, I don't really need anything. I have have a backpack, clothes, and bedding.
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
hahaha I forgot price! I thought that was a given :).
I'd get an 8cell. It's really not that bad. I don't think it's ugly open or closed with it. I'm using the slim battery right now and I get a comfortable amount of use with it, but I miss being able to sit for a few hours without plugging in.
I think I've learned never to charge batteries with a power inverter on a car, even if it's supposedly safe for electronics. I'm quasi convinced that using my inverter dramatically killed the cycles on my 8cell. I'm also pretty sure the car lighter adapter killed my first ipod mini.
i'm thinking i will get the 8 - but do you have an -s or the regular model? i don't even know if i can get a slim.
hopefully the power converter here in the uk doesn't kill my new batt.
oh yeah my list:
1. commuting/touring bike
2. domke swivel/quick release camera strap
3. domke postal service grade shoulder pad for my bag
goodbye loud nikon yellow twisted strap.
I don't think the converter will kill it, it's properly rated to handle the extra wattage. I do have an s model.

Actually, I would like to add one thing to my to-buy list... a NEW backpack. Mine's some crappy thing from Wal-Mart that does its job of carrying clothes to the laundromat.
i refuse to wear backpacks. as a result my neutral posture is leaning to one side... yeah messenger bags
i'm going to buy some used books. and find an internet cafe that can feed my bandwidth addiction.
any specific titles nestor?
I recently found out about this organization that sets up 'bookstore touring' in the bay area!
http://www.nciba.com/bookstores/south.html
no, not really, i just REALLY need a new book. i only notice this 'lack of book' because back in canada i generally have my library with me and a lot of the books i buy i just shelve knowing i'll read/need them someday.
all the bookstores are closed now so i downloaded my first ebook (off waffles, thankfully). then i realized that the typography on ebooks (unless pdf) is abysmal. any solutions?
what, is it a plain text file or something?
essentially, yes.
Can't you just change the font in your text editor...?
put on some latex!
who wants to typeset books before reading them?

I think my buy list is empty right now. nothing more than like ten dollars at least. unless weed counts.
The first one is worth it.
i would need a numpad
what's the difference between the 103u and the 86u other than the lack of a numpad?

You know it does.

What is so great about this keyboard that two of y'all are considering dropping nearly three bills on one?
> What is so great about this keyboard that two of y'all have already dropped nearly three bills on one?
I actually paid USD 430 for it including shipping and Norwegian taxes. Still worth it because the key switches are so good.
> i haven't purchased anything yet.
me neither. this isn't the "bought" thread.
i did some reading about this in the afternoon... i'm converted!
i'm debating between the tenkey and tenkeyless models at this point and i will almost certainly go with a topre realforce. i spend so much time on a computer that it's absolutely worth it (i'm pretty much at my desk for ~12-15 hours a day at work).
at this point, reasons for the switch.
1. heavy, heavy shortcut user in excel / powerpoint
2. bottom out on my cheap keyboard at work (membrane)
3. strongly suspect some of the switches on my keyboard at work are long gone
3. don't mind my cheapie mechanical keyboards at home, but i think the weighting is off on them
4. need relatively quiet keys, as i work in a bullpen-style office (not cubicles, thank god)
plus:
5. wrist pain :(
