He's a brilliant guy. But there's so much more to it. We live in a culture of least common denominator. Being better than is frowned upon. We make it blatantly obvious in everything that we do... that we hate innovation on every level of our government. No child left behind, really drove the point home. When no child is left behind, all children are held to the lower possible level of achievement. Least common denominator.

Just looking at our "homeland security" legislature... it becomes obvious that exhibiting any signs of uniqueness or even a passing interest in the sciences is cause for harassment. Try getting on a plain with a bit of homebrew electronics, and you'll end up under arrest for "menacing" or some shit... and then get fined half a million dollars because they shut down half the airport because they were unsure whether or not the blinking LED was a threat. Hell, try buying a chemistry set... A. they don't sell real chemistry sets anymore because it was discovered rednecks were using them to manufacture meth (HORSESHIT REASON BTW), and B. Just buying those chemicals requires you to identify yourself so you can be entered into a government database... so they can harass you at their leisure.

I mean, what the fuck happened in these past 8 years... Some guys with box cutters managed to hijack a plane... and all of a sudden terrorism means being interested in something other than american idol.

It's so mind numbingly frustrating just to think about it. It really does fuck my day up.

You expect too much from a twenty-minute talk about copyright laws and the creativity it limits.

Well said.

You know, the wings of a bee in China can cause a hurricane in the U.S. ... So a beekeeper is a weapon of mass destruction and should put in that place in Cuba!!

No, this doesn't make any sense, but all the other "anti-terrorism" laws make just as much sense ... Remember the whole "liquid bomb" panic some time ago? did anyone look up how you make a liquid bomb?
It's impossible to make one and let it detonate in a plane, even if you manage to do so (A chimp would type Hamlet sooner by randomly hitting keys) the effect is small, in all likelihood a plane will be able to land and no people or "only" a few people would get killed.
Yet millions and millions were spent, and you can't even bring a fucking bottle of water on a plane!?!

Oh, and did you read about that guy with the Transformer T-Shirt...

I will rant about how terrible the TSA is, and how they should be abolished alongside the FCC, after I fly to LA.

On one hand, I hear you, the FCC in it's current establishment is something of a tremendous failure, however, we do need a governing body to protect bandwidth from being used up by idiots. We also can't have joe schmoe car service interfering with medical equipment and the sort.... there's all sorts of reasons for a governing body akin to the FCC...

But on the whole yeah... down with em.

There's a difference between the FCC regulating who uses what bandwidth, and telling us what we can and can not do with those bandwidths. Most notably being their weird regulations about what is and isn't aloud on radio and TV.
