Last night I met a destructive force.
I walk in the front door and there's a bit of a party going on. Laying on the couch was my new roommate Patricia, with her friends sitting on the barstools. She invited me to party and so I agreed.
I heard someone mention that they wish there were a camera so I go grab mine. I'm taking pictures here and there, of the festivities and event. I turn to this one girl and take a picture and she flips out and punches my lens. I guess I shouldn't have done that without asking, but no one objected when I signaled a photo any of the times prior. Just the things she was saying made me realize that she is generally self destructive and doesn't mind being very careless. She also grabbed a pillow from the couch to put on the floor. She was extremely self conscious, to a point that elicits a quick violent reaction.
Anyway the part that sucked more was that she was trying to hit on me and other people were egging me on. I didn't take well to any of this. I already knew she was trouble. Later on some other people were using my camera to take pictures, and once again someone takes a picture of her and she pushes the lens into the persons face who was taking the picture. I was urged insistently to hit that because she was all about me. I was messed up too, but I didn't give in, instead I went to my room and wrote down: SHE IS A DESTRUCTIVE FORCE on a piece of paper.

Here comes a follow up. Saturday she returns to my house with my roommate drunk yet again. I was downstairs to get some water, from chillin' in my room. She walked in the door and through a hall passing me. While downstairs some of the girls asked if I was hungry, because I was about to get some authentic mexican food goodness(!) in a while. I went back upstairs after getting my water. I was busy watching eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. I heard a lot of loud shit downstairs like crashing noises (even with my larger headphones on, though not superior noise canceling). Then there was this loud sobbing and some exchanged words. A while later things calmed down and I smelled the food so I came out to eat. One of the girls left without saying anything to her friends and my roommate.
Turns out, someone bumped the destructive one, who overreacted to the girl bumping by falling to the ground and injuring herself(?) in the face. So the girl who bumped her left, and she seemed quite nice, though I wasn't able to actually get her name. Sal (a pseudo roomie) took care of business by putting the destructive one in his car and giving her an icepack (my hotdogs from the freezer >:( hmpf!). She was, a while later, taken home.
I ate some good burrito things.

And the manager cut my help, so I'm stuck doing all this alone in addition to fixing the projector that broke yesterday. I'll be here till 3AM at least and that pisses off the floor manager ... who cut my help.

Got a frame, acid-free back board, and glass cut to size today. Got home, assembled the frame, was unwrapping the glass, and my roommate lifted up the opposite end to help and snapped the glass in half.
Hard drive crashed, lost all the audio we've recorded for the movie. Had a backup on my brother's computer but he forgot to back it up when he formatted his drive last night. So, 4 days of shooting (and 6 rolls of film) is useless unless we want to spend weeks ADR looping.

An explosion apparently caused by a gas leak Thursday morning leveled a downtown building, sent debris and flames towering and shattered glass windows blocks away.
The extent of injuries was unknown.
Emergency workers evacuated a three-block radius from the explosion that was centered apparently at Boodles at 215 East Main St., at about 8:30 a.m. Witnesses on the scene reported that Boodles and the Rockin R Bar next door were both severely damaged.
Flames were still rising from the building at about 9 a.m., and the Bozeman Fire Department was leading the emergency response. Bozeman police, Gallatin County sheriff’s deputies and the Montana Highway Patrol were also on the scene.
Witnesses in the area reported seeing debris fly three times the height of the two-story historic building. Glass windows on downtown storefronts two blocks away were shattered by the blast.
City officials were centering their investigation on a 12-inch gas line that runs a half-block north of Main Street, although the exact cause was still unknown.
School District officials reported that Hawthorne Elementary School — the nearest to the area — was not damaged and that all students were safe. They urged parents to stay away from the downtown area.

Figured out what happened afterward... a small sliver of rolled up masking tape got caught on the film, so when it tried to go through the brain, it brought an extra loop of film through, causing much fun.
one of my rolls of film is scratched on the emulsion side of numerous exposures. i wonder how this happened! it wasn't shot with my new camera, so i know it's not the camera's fault. maybe i did it when i was washing it (vigorously).

i think there are different grades of wood. if you go to a lumber yard, the wood will almost always be too bowed to use for precision work like furniture. also, lumber yards carry mostly pine, and they mostly carry sizes of board that are useful to building construction.
so if you want other types of wood, wood of larger sizes, or wood of higher grade, you'll need to source your wood elsewhere. a place like this will have many thicknesses of boards, many types of wood, and furniture grade wood. check out that stock list.

I was scheduled to receive my 10-20mm lens yesterday afternoon. I was working, so I couldn't sign for it (signature was required for delivery). Upon arriving home, I didn't see the usual "UPS attempted to deliver a package" slip on my door. Instead, the box was just left there, with a large dent in one corner.

My old roommate's one experience with salvia included a hallucination that the paint texture on the walls were streaming up and gathering in a big pool on the ceiling just above his head. He was terrified the added weight would make the roof fall in and crush him.
I tried it a few times in high school and experienced nothing out of the ordinary, save for a perceived heightening in my sense of sight, taste, and touch. I think I had a giggle fit for the first ten minutes one time, too.

i went back at 6pm, and it was nowhere to be found in the hallway. i assumed it would be safe there because it's a low-traffic building. moreover, there wasn't anything of value in the folder, just two notebooks, all of my french and poetry assignments, my to-do lists, and some class notes.
i'm hoping that they decided against leaving it in the hallway, or that one of the other shop owners in the building brought it in for safekeeping. i'll go check tomorrow.

+ clutch cable is wearing out, causing my clutch to never fully engage, so now I risk burning out my clutch each time I ride my bike. Ignoring that, I still can't get the bike to go above 20mph. So I can't ride it anymore until this issue is resolved.
+ of course, having no job makes that difficult. Oh, and now I can only walk places ... so finding a job is gonna be harder than before.
+ GE keeps calling me (~ 12 times a day ... starting at 8:30AM, ending about 6:30PM) asking and bitching about when I'm going to make a payment on my bike. See above statement ...
+ T-Mobile shut off my phone because of non-payment. That's fun.

What happened? My throat has been bothering me for four days in a row. It's like something is stuck in the back of my throat, and it makes me have to swallow every 8 seconds or so. No other cold/flu symptoms have presented, but last night I was up until 5:30 am coughing and having problems breathing. Actually I was getting a little panicky.
At one point I ran to the bathroom because I thought I was going to throw up -- not because of nausea but because it felt like something was triggering my gag reflex. I ended up eating a banana and drinking some coke. Seems like the only time I get a little relief is while/after eating.
I don't know what to do about it. :( My whole neck aches from working so much for so long.

Man nothing beat the rain storms in "Central" area of Sao Paulo. You could have flash flooding in the city streets. People actually died in a tunnel when the water level rose from like a foot to five feet in a matter of minutes. The city had no drainage and was built to be rained on.

A friend had a beat up bike. Pulled the frame from a junk pile ( literally ) added some pretty standard components nothing fancy... got it working. Used it for two years in NYC. He'd lock it up outside his apt ( which generally is a very bad idea ). But the bike was so beat up, and I mean really really beat up... it looked like the frame had been acid eroded all over... no one stole it. In fact some people had often taken it for a derelict and thrown trash in it's basket.
Eventually, someone finally did steal it. Though I can't imagine what down on his luck thief came to the conclusion that, that bike was worth stealing.
Just goes to show... bike thieves aren't stealing because they are poor, or because they are greedy, they are stealing because they are complete fucking jerks without a care in the world for anyone but their own impulse control issue ridden selves.

I checked in, got my key, went in to my dorm with a buddy of mine living in the next building over and as soon as I opened the door I knew something was wrong. The A/C had been off all summer so it was miserable, but I turned on the lights and looked at what I thought was thread-bare carpeting. I took one step and noticed billows of dust coming up from my foot. Looking closer, I realized the carpet wasn't in bad shape ... everything was covered in mold and mildew.
And they won't move me to a new room because their are no empty rooms, and I have to wait 12 days after class begins (Monday) to even apply for a room transfer. They said they would have maintenance come out ASAP, but they were all tied up dealing with a burst pipe in another building.

Today I left work so late it was dark out. The bike trail at night has 0 lighting. Is next to zero lighting. i tried cleaning out my keyboard with some rubbing alcohol. in the process, i broke a couple of the scissor-style connectors that hold on the small keys (e.g., the arrow keys). to top it off, my left ctrl key is all weird now. it either (a) doesn't work, (b) is always on, or (c) is so sensitive that if i put ANY pressure on it at all, then it turns on.
i called up the support center in atlanta georgia and got some exhausted black dude. i told him what happened, but he didn't really care anyway, because i have the accidental protection plan. he just asked if i tried re-seating the keyboard and how long it's been happening. a new one is on the way.
so then i realized--as long as i have accidental protection, why would i ever bother cleaning my keyboard? it's a fucking endeavor and impossible to do perfectly. i may as well just land a solid warranty and order a new keyboard every year.

heh at one job we had a gen 3 dl760. the fucking thing had faulty primary coolant fans. they'd burn out in like a couple weeks. so we had a guy continually calling in the warranty in advance. we ended up with a closet full of spare and dead fans. And that was with us shipping stuff back.

So I cross the street, I don't know what US traffic regulations are, but in Dutchland I've got priority here.
I'm not a complete idiot, and as we say in Dutch "You don't take priority, you are given priority", but not only was this car speeding like hell, it also took the turn fairly suddenly and without any turn indicator.
When the car *just* flew by me I made a blinking signal with my hand to indicate I wasn't particular happy with this situation. Given the circumstances I would consider this to be fairly polite.
The result I got was that the guy slammed the brakes, got out of the car, and started yelling at me.
He didn't get physical, but that was just barley.
I had a similar situation a few weeks ago, I was riding on my bike someone threw a milkshape or something on the street literately 3 meters from a trash bin. I stopped, friendly asked if he minded if I cleaned after him, picked up the trash, and threw it in the bin.

My senior year of high school, the last day of the fall semester, I was walking to my car after class. It was packed with people trying to get out. Well, a girl I've been in school with since 3rd grade comes speeding down the aisle I'm walking down in the parking lot and feels that I'm moving too slow. She revvs her engine a few time and honks and yells and just generally acted a fool. Turns out she drives a stick-shift, so when she revvs her engine one time, she let's the clutch slip, and hits me with her car. My left leg was forward when she hit me so when the car hit me my right leg went up into the engine compartment and my left leg went straight in front of me, and my head hit the concrete pretty hard. Know what that bitch did? She drove off. Know what the hundreds of people around me did? Drive off.
Had to drive 4 hours to East Texas the next day with a bruised and torn up leg. FUN.

The great thing about both SF and NYC, is that the bike riding contingent at times can be straight up militant. In NYC for instance if you were walking in a bike path when a bike messenger was going by.... he'd try to hit you with his 30 lb chain.

The end result is I enjoy a certain lack of hate from folks. That being said.... being 6'3" is kinda great. Even in bars assholes tend not to pick fights with me.
My brother on the other hand has unholy road rage. It's like nothing I've ever seen. Last time I was in his truck with him someone was waving a plumbers wrench out the window at him. The man has no fear.

My housemate/one of my closest friends hasn't spoken a meaningful word to me since Friday...and the two words he did speak when I asked if something was wrong were extremely rude/angry. What's your job?
I answer phones & chats for HostGator ... basically, if you need a problem you either call or use the live chat and we'll walk you through the steps or just redirect you to tutorials. Also handle billing issues. I've only been on the actual job a few days and I hate it. I don't like any aspect of it ... first job in like 5 years with actual A/C, and it's just too cold for me most of the time ... yeah, I'm knocking A/C. They keep us on a quota system, so if we don't do something around 5 calls an hour, or 10 chats an hour, we get a talking to. That's irritating, though I'm almost making quota a few days into the job, so they're okay with that. They monitor everything, always on my ass about something ... but no one is ever rude or mean, and I think that makes it a little more frustrating for me. I don't trust a smiling manager/supervisor. Always a bad sign. And everything moves so fast, all the time you gotta be doing something and helping someone and juggling all these problems simultaneously and it gets so overwhelming. I can't keep up. I've been trying really hard to stay positive about this job, talking it up, talking about the good in the job, but I still question this.
Luckily, financial aid is covering all my living expenses through May, so once that gets here I can quit if I feel like I need to.

I love my job. I think all my bosses are incompetent. And their bosses even more so. In fact incompetence seems to grow logarithmically as you climb the ladder in this organization... and I mean my contracting company not my actual work. I love where I work and what I do... but the people who hand me my pay check should not be doing their damnedest to sink what is a highly successful project to date.

The file system was just unreadable by any NTFS tool I threw at it, so I officially called it beyond (my) repair. Windows was just kind of freaking out when I plugged the drive in and said it couldn't access the drive, or read any information from it. Told me the drive was 0 bytes large, and with 0 bytes free. :-/

I do, had a tech friend look at it and what I really needed was either unrecoverable or it was only a few raw footage files (nothing substantial) ... so I just formatted it and decided to move on.

Does the drive still spin? If it does, you can use either dd_rescue or ddrescue (Different projects, both do the same) and copy all the data to a different drive. the parted magic liveCD comes with ddrescue.

ok, that's what i figured. i got a quote from a company that ozntz recommended--gillware data recovery. the quote was $700 to $800 (no fee if no data is recovered).
I don't know the company, but $700-$800 seems reasonable. I only have experience with Kroll OnTrack and RAID disks, but their figures were always above 1000 euro (euro, not usd!) Last time it was above 3000 euro.

Yeah. I spend the last 6 or so months helping her through this because I've been so happy to see her doing so well for the first time in years, dealing with the fact that I'm helping her deliver some other dude's baby ... only to have her tell me she doesn't want me there 4 days before she's due.
I'm not sure how I feel about this right now. Part of me is really happy that the dad is stepping up and going to be helping her through this--as he should have been the whole time--but mostly I feel like an idiot for not seeing this coming. I'm not terribly butt-hurt about this, but it's just one more reason why I don't want to talk to her anymore. Especially considering she told me a few weeks ago that she was just going to go back to her old habits of popping speed and not eating for weeks on end once she's recovered from the delivery. I just tried to help a friend out through something really hard and have it bite me in the ass.
Now I get to deal with all the statements of "I told you so" and "See? She's just a bitch" from everyone. Fuck, maybe I should just listen to my friends more.

Landlord is "willing" to let me pay my rent for the next few months in C# code (of which I know next to nothing), provided I maintain a "sufficient quota" of working functions ... but he "isn't willing" to let that apply towards power/water. And provided I pay the covered rent BACK in January.
So I may be moving into my grandmother's for a while... big house, and she'd be all alone in it otherwise. So that may just be the better idea anyway. Nah, I'm trying to avoid taking money from people over this--after all, this really is my doing. The only thing that's making me worried right now is how I would get to/from UH from way the fuck out in Cypress-proper, where my grandmother lives. What I'm thinking is having my mom look after the dogs until the semester ends in a few weeks and just camping up at Occupy Houston. Could ride my bike to classes from there very easily (<10 miles) and would be fed. Until the cops shut us down, anyway. Plus, it's not summer anymore so it won't be 90 degrees at night.

I don't know how common of a law this is, but I got hit with a parking ticket for "parking within 20ft of a crosswalk". The funny part is, I actually got out my tape measure after this and measured 20ft and found out that if they actually enforced this all the time, there would be at least 20 parking tickets a day in my neighborhood. no markings, no signs. nothing.

I am on my motorcycle on my way home from my friend's apartment. I turn the corner onto a neighborhood street and this kid, maybe 18 or 19, is sprinting across the street and down the sidewalk. I look up ahead and see an ambulance and police cruiser outside a house, maybe 100 yards away. The kid is saying over and over, "Oh god, please, no."

I went on a bike ride this afternoon. 12 miles out, I was going about 30 mph (according to my Garmin Forerunner, which logged the whole event), when I remember losing control. The next thing I remember is being in a CT or MRI machine, having a headbrace on, and not being allowed to drink anything. I broke my helmet, had some cranial bleeding, and occupied the sole emergency department trauma room for a few hours.
I'm okay now, all things considered. I'm at my place, unable to sleep, with a friend sleeping on my couch to make sure I don't die. The fact that my shirt was cut off me and that I had heart monitor pads stuck all over my chest afterwards is a clue that it was kinda serious.
Long story short, I cried a bit in the taxi on the way home.

ordered replacement thinkpad keyboard on ebay, because a few on my keys have broken tabs and it's getting pretty dirty after two years of use. replacement didn't work (no power lights and the power button didn't work). ebay seller issued me a refund and told me to throw it away within an hour of me messaging him. now I kind of want to get it to work.

ambulance trips all around but so far it looks like a sprained wrist is my only lasting issue from the accident. though the dental thing may have been kicked off by the accident as well =/

we all got varies scrapes and bruises. sore all over. etc. but we're all fine and mostly alive.
as for my cousin she's just getting out of the hospital. information is spotty atm. but a group of guys basically beat her and left her on the side of a road in long island. she spent 6 hours outside in a thunderstorm in about 30 degree weather. Which may have actually saved her life as her lower body temperature helped with the internal bleeding. =(

Yesterday I got BPPV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benign_paroxysmal_positional_vertigo), apparently you can get this spontaneously.
In short, it means I get vertigo whenever I move my head & feel sort of seasick all the time... For someone who gets sick when sitting in a car or even a mild rollercoaster, this is double the fun ... I threw up about 20 times yesterday... I now got pills to control the vomiting, whch seem to work.
To make the day even more fun, I also got fired yesterday ... Not completely unexpected though, last thing I did on my way out was get a bout of vertigo and throw up over the stairs :-/

Things just weren't working out, in part my fault, in part theirs ... As these things go, I suppose it was a `good parting', neither side holds any animosity, and I'll probably return at least once to give a presentation I already prepared in my spare time.

i was getting some small intestine strictures (due to Crohn's Disease) fixed up on 11/11. a couple days post-op, my pain got out of hand and then suddenly my vital signs went crazy. my doctors didn't bother with diagnostics like a CT scan, because they thought i didn't have time for that. they booked an OR and opened me up--my intestines had perforated at the revised anastomosis. they cleaned all the stool out of my abdominal cavity, and i'm doing much better now. unfortunately, they didn't want to try to sew the intestine together where sutures already failed and perforated. so they made a couple stomas instead (ileostomy for the sm. intestine, mucus fistula for the colon). bummer. :/

I've known him for two years. He was 16 year old stoner that never stopped laughing. No one could ever stay mad at him. He was always in a good mood. I miss him. I hate that this happened.
They had a candlelight vigil in front of his house tonight, and 150-200 people showed up and stayed for hours. Neighbors came out, too. Then people walking their dogs. It was nice to talk about him with people. His mom was wearing a hat my friend had ordered before he died, it had arrived the day after. It was a silly Gilligan's Island type hat with the words "sad cutie" across the front with little frownie faces on either side. She hadn't taken it off, and I don't think she will for a while. She was also wearing his old tie dye shirt that had "zombie" written across the chest and 40s on the arms. Everything was so silly. It was nice.

Really, I'm doing okay. My girl and I broke up a few weeks ago, too. I spend 55-60 hours a week working for what amounts to minimum wage, dealing with terrible people who want nothing more to scream and insult me it seems. I have two classes left until I have my BA, but I'm pretty sure I'm bombing the classes because I end up sleeping through them after 14-16 hour shifts the day before.
But I'm okay. Maybe I'm just so overwhelmed I don't even try to process how much stress I'm in, or maybe I'm just letting go of things. I don't know. But I still get up every day, I still dance to punk music around my room, and I go out and ride my bike sometimes. I have fun. :D

I have to have conversations with my boss daily because they call him the minute I leave and bitch about how lazy I am. I had to justify taking a lunch break to my boss during a 13 hour shift because of them. I once again don't get days off and routinely end up working 12-14 hours a day to appease these little shits. And now they're being assholes to my employees, too, so I get to have a very uncomfortable conversation with them this afternoon.

Currently at the clinic, and one of those managers called my boss screaming about how the safe is $200 short and since I closed last night it must have been me. So now I have a scared, freaked out girl next to me and a phone that won't stop going off from 3 different people.

Eh, not much better, but things are a bit better. I got really drunk and ordered a bunch of tone/noise generator ICs off of eBay last night along with an Arduino Nano. I drunkenly sketched out some noise box for the musical project a friend of mine and I are working on. So that's fun.
yeah, that's cool. keep us posted! i like electronics projects, i just don't usually have the time and patience to complete them myself. :)
I'm struggling with the time part myself. Still working 70+ hours a week, but that seems to be coming to an end. I finally have the tone generator ICs, and a simple white/periodic noise generator compiled, just lacking some wires and switches to complete everything. But I now have a butane powered soldering pen! That's fun. And compact.
Of course now all I can think about is "bigger" and "more" ... I could have 12 independently controlled oscillators in one kit if I get one of the big Mega 2650 boards. But I may just get a RPi and do all that in software and have a (practically) limitless selection. Not to mention modularity and upgradeability. We'll see..

I could never get into electronics ... All this fidgeting with small stuff and before you know it you mess it up and you broke something :-/

My life's slowly going down the shitter. I hate to throw heavy shit on you guys why hardly know me but I've always felt at ease unloading dirty laundry here to get it off my chest.
Wife and I have been fighting constantly ever since Kiernan was born. 6 months now and it's been hell. It's had massive consequences on my work, and my work has added stress to our marriage. The only relief came during the 2 months my wife spent in Montana while I held down the fort in PA over the holidays. I actually started seeing a therapist, which has been good but hasnt really helped me break out of this depression I'm in.
Man, If only I could turn back the clock. No house, No kid, No Uber. Just enjoy where I was and stop thinking that I needed all these things. Not that I don't love my wife or my kid, but shit, I didn't stop and think about how all these things would affect me.

i don't mean to be a bummer, but i feel like i'm dying alone in plain sight. i don't know what to do about it. i wish i could communicate how i feel to a loved one, because it would be nice to feel understood by someone whom i love and who loves me. that wouldn't solve the problem though

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words. I'm still alive and married. It's been a tough year but I made it through and have come out better. Lots of therapy and drugs (Wellbutrin kicks ass! weight loss, increased sex drive, AND anti-depressant!)
