i'm pretty glad that with some well thought-out policies, the president can save the country's economy

sorry about the lack of viable parties; it bums me out too.

we're kind of silly over here about the whole left/right thing. left always means socially liberal big government and right always means socially conservative small government. there are certainly gray areas when it comes to individuals, but when you look at the two parties as wholes this is what you're going to see.

I want to see a socially and economically liberal party. socially liberal small government would be pretty cool I think. or at least I think it would be worth a shot.

i agree with "fuck parties" but i say "fuck the presidential election" get local news to cover local elections. stop fucking showing people the presidential elections... they don't even vote in them. they do vote for their local representatives... and their local representatives impact their lives more.

also we need to change our coverage from "OMFG HE STOPPED WEARING AN AMERICAN FLAG PIN!!!$!$!%!%" and "OMFG HE MADE A RACIALLY INFLAMATORY JOKE!!!!#!$!" and maybe discuss whether or not their policies... or in most cases lack thereof... are unsettling or outright scary.

news media doesn't cover it.... might not even know how to.... certainly has no reason to... and we all suffer because of it.

Has anyone seen their statements regarding energy policy?

It seems the candidates are leaning towards nuclear power(either by refining current plants or building new ones). I don't know about this. I understand nuclear has a huge output. I'm more worried about waste disposal.

DaGr8Gatzby we basically froze our level of nuclear technology in the seventies... our current existing plants are aging, and grossly inefficient... the produce far more waste than necessary.

Clean Coal, and Nuclear Energy reform are easy acceptable answers to our current energy problems for homes and cities. I don't like generating nuclear waste any more than the next guy, but truth is... we can deal with it when necessary. And we've got some exciting technology being researched as we speak to replace it.

So I'm totally for nuclear energy reform. New more efficient / safer plants. All the way. Clean coal should be mandatory.

It's basically a matter of how far you want to go, not should we. It's plainly obvious to anyone who is keeping up with nuclear energy concerns in the US, that we need to allow new technology to permeate that industry.

The main opposition toward nuclear energy is often guided by "underbelly feelings" as we call in in the Netherlands, rather than reason and scientific fact.

less waste to dispose of. the newer reactors use up more fissionable material, use less heavy water. meaning less waste to dispose of.

we're kind of in a part iii now, aren't we? :)

I was seriously unimpressed with the speech. too much of the same lofty rhetoric from him and not enough hard facts, candid assessments of the race, and specific policy talk. I'm really sick of the populist anecdotes about the "small-time farmer" and the "single mom working as a nurse" and the "factory worker whose job was shipped overseas by greedy corporations." I'm all for addressing people's concerns, but it seems like every five seconds someone is trying to relate to "ordinary people" by probably hyperbolizing a story about meeting someone who's going through rough times.

Obama's speech about race a while back was amazing and practically made me cry; I was hoping for a similar emotional reaction to this—especially given that it was the 45th anniversary or King's "I Have a Dream" speech—and it just wasn't there.

I already told Asemi this but I think the reason no policy change was actually spoken of was because the DNC wanted to "unite the party". Ah well. Who cares. Can't wait to see a debate between McCain and Obama.

Wow not even 12 hours after the DNC was over, McCain makes a good move and picks a woman as a running mate. I don't like her, but not because she's a woman, because of her policy choices. Great.

They are both horrible candidates. It's like some sort of freak show instead of a presidential race.

yeah, shit isn't going to change much with either of them. foreign policy is what worries me most, and I think that I trust Obama to approach it more pragmatically and wisely than McCain. who knows though. I live in Massachusetts, so Obama has my state no matter what I do. I might look into third-party candidates to cast my vote for.
