This is kinda to break off from the WoW thread.
What genre of games are entertaining to you?
What new games in that genre are appealing?
I got hooked on playing wii games for about a week while I was in LA. In downtime at bmt I played gta on ps3 a bit too. I'm mainly talking about computer games in this thread, but any system will do.

CounterStrike, HL, Quake 3.
I got an affinity for the classics.

yes sorry. I just read that.
Simcity 4? Hahaha! I don't game all that much on the PC or consoles. However, I do enjoy Fifa and Madden's. Foot and Fut.
:D
i'm not playing anything new right now
but i just got back to my desktop so that might change.
school starts soon though so don't want to hook myself

I'm really into first-person shooters. I usually don't play brand new ones for lack of required hardware. most recent one I've played is Halo 3 on Xbox 360, which was pretty sweet. I've been wanting to play it lately. maybe I'll see if I can install Vista on my MacBook and play Halo 2.
I really really really love a first-person shooter with an awesome story line. e.g., Halo series and Half-Life series. recommend me some of these if you know any! I like sci-fi stuff too, not so much modern warfare and shit like that (though I do still enjoy all the Call of Duty games).
I've also been kind of wanting to play a combat flight simulator lately. I used to play this one called ATF Gold back in the day. had a joystick and everything.

nothing is wrong - what are you scared of?
i'm tempted to get spore when it comes out.. first game in a loong time :)

I need a new game. I'm thinking about playing Half-Life again. and the spinoffs like Blue Shift and Opposing Force.
a roommate of mine has Spore but it won't run on my MacBook :(.
asemi, try the unreal games if you haven't already. I don't remember the story, but the experience of that in single player was pretty cool.
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
really? I always got the sense that the single player in those was really lame like in Quake.
any more suggestions?
maybe you're thinking about unreal tournament, which is all about multiplaying?
Unreal (And Unreal 2) has a story-based campaign.
The Unreal Tournament series don't, it's just deathmatch and similar gamemodes.
asemisldkfj
the law is no protection
yeah I didn't even realize there was something other than Unreal Tournament.
I should play Tony Hawk 4 on my GameCube; I love that game. I also kind of want to get Mario Kart for it.

Passage.
Downloaded. I'll be playing this tonight offline (my internet at home is DEAD). :D
Passage > seconded.
two sittings on knytt. pretty nice
ok, i downloaded it, tried running it and nothing happened. am i missing something? did it extract somewhere? a command shell pops open then closes. i tried it navigating through via cmd, still no go. i tried this file from that page:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/hcsoftware/P … indows.exe
what gives?
i downloaded a bunch of other games that were free on there. i am having some fun with the game 'n', i'm not too good at it though.
i tried cyclopes, it's not too fun. also tried battle for wesnoth. that game looks pretty good for an open source game, but turn based is usually not my style.
fallout 3

fallout 3 is ridiculously cool so far. think oblivion but with guns, mutants, and washington d.c.
combat thus far is quite satisfying for an rpg.

I can't get into half-life 2: episode 1 for some reason. I really dislike the concept of "episodes," like small installments of games instead of one longer game. it's like if a good novel was split up into three parts.
Chiken

episode 1 was pretty bad. you aren't missing much

wha?! no way. i had a blast playing episode 1.
> I really dislike the concept of "episodes"
me too, but i like the idea of new content more than i dislike the idea of episodes
Mafia 2 is fun.
Kane and Lynch 2 sucks.
Transformers: War for cybertron sucks.
Dark Tales: Murders in the Rue morgue sucks.
Thief 3 sucks just because it doesn't work properly on a widescreen.
The Saboteur sorta sucks (mildly entertaining though).
... Every time I want to try a new fun game I always have to dig through this large pile of shit games to finally find one that doesn't suck ...

I downloaded the FFXIV open beta. played a few hours of it. kinda interesting the new story telling they have incorporated into an MMO. When you first create a new character you feel like you are playing an old FF (the cut scene, story telling and basic intro that seems cliche to older RPG's). If you played FFXI, you'll notice HUGE imporvements, namely in the combat and no loading times between enviroments.
Overall I'm extremely impressed so far with FFXIV and if it weren't for school I would probably invest a lot of time in it. Sadly (or is it fortunately), I have commitments that prevent me from actually investing any real time into the game or actually buying it when it comes out.

i think that last paragraph is the general attitude of the mmo generation (our age group).
or maybe they haven't reached their peak yet and i'm a washup!

Dragon Quest IX has been eating so very much of my time lately D:
[ lucas: any particular reason this is valid but <em>this</em> isn't? ]
just because we didn't explicitly allow that tag in
the code.
psquid

In that case, is there any reason that it (and also <strong>) shouldn't be added, given that it's often considered more correct to use <em> when emphasis is needed, rather than essentially dictating that the emphasized content
must be italic (bonus hypocrisy in that sentence)?

I'm real big into pen & paper RPGs, and
Nobilis has a third printing out! They changed it up a lot, it seems. :-/
asciiportal is mind bottling.
this post has been archived.
I played Crawl (Or "Linley's Dungeon Crawl") alot back in the day ... Together with other roguelikes such as Angband, TOME, and ofcourse the classic rogue (Then still shipped with FreeBSD by default!)
> Nobilis
wow, the author changes her name a lot
phi_

Yeah ... she only legally changed it recently, but she's written under pseudonyms before. She's kind of a nutcase, I think, but Nobilis is one of the best RPGs I've ever played.
