intense. the PM and parliament aren't getting along, correct?
well there is a minority gov't here so the pm's party depends on other parties for support on every bill.
however they (the conservatives) think they can get a majority gov't, so they called this election. should be interesting.

yeah I thought so.
the election is for parliament, not PM?
PM is elected as the leader of the party with the most seats in the house of commons.
canadian federal govt:
elected house of commons. 300ish seats - members of parliament. 3 main parties: conservative, liberal, ndp (from right->left political orientation). prime minster is the head of government but not the head of state. the head of state is the queen.
the government is the party with the most seats elected in the house. the prime minister is the leader of the party with the most seats elected in the house (.: basically decided internally - no primaries). seats are elected first past the post in ridings. federally, only the conservatives and the liberals have only ever formed a majority (50%< of seats, can basically do whatever they want as they can push bills through) or a minority (less than 50% of seats, therefore government needs the support of other parties to pass bills). we've only ever had one coalition gov't in recent history, for all you europeans :D
the funny thing about canadian politics is it starts WAYYY to the left of us politics. the conservatives are supporters of abortion on demand, gay marriage, and full public healthcare. muah
should be fun

oh, I get it now. parliamentary governments are foreign to me :).
we actually talked about the british parliament in history class today. seems it's pretty much the same thing as the canadian one
pretty much. except they have a house of lords and we have an (unelected) senate. and they are not federal.
is there a parliament for every territory?
well there are 10 provinces and 3 territories. each has a single legislative body (no senates, etc.)
the provinces are the real places, territories are the stuff up north where nobody lives, and their governments don't do much other than try to cut down on kids using inhalants and becoming alcoholics
wow, i'm pessimistic.
to answer your question: yes.

No one cares about America Jr.
I'm kidding. Hey what's with banking regulations in Canada? I want to open a Canadian bank account. Say I do, can I deposit to a pokersite and withdraw directly to my debit card?
Well not many sites have direct debiting, only site I've seen that does that is the passenger train company.

Does NetTeller have the same restrictions there?
I've never heard of NetTeller. Here all debit transactions are cleared by a not-for-profit company called Interac.

That's the Liberal (centre/centre-left) PM candidate.

hahaha I might be going to Montreal next weekend. we will see if the situation is the same there.
haha. us elections are an absolute joke in canada. i maybe know 3 republicans and i'm pretty sure all of them are kinda crazy.
and i've been on local conservative party executives and stuff.

It's okay, nestor, it's a joke down here, too. :)
voted tonight... so it'll be all over in a couple of hours.
from 0 to new govt in a shade more than a month. lol @ america.
lol @ us? :P
the only reason you called your highest election early was because your conservative government was afraid of what would happen if the democrats take the white house. :) it might take two years for us to elect a new president but at least we are electing one because it is the law rather than some political maneuvering by the head of government. if we gave our president that much control of the political process then we might as well give up the presidential office to the republicans for the next hundred years. snap elections (shaking head)
but i guess it works for you. we are stuck with this stupid two party system :(
maybe nestor means america as u.s. and canada.
hadn't thought of that, excuse me nestor. :(
that is what the guatemalans always say to me, 'we are americans too'. but it is so often confused.
no, i meant usa :(
but i see what you are getting at, although the mechanics aren't as obvious as you may think.. it takes the opposition parties to start the process through a vote of no confidence in the government.
oh, that is completely different. now i envy your system. you probably never get to the point where your pm has approval rating of less than 30%. i think i should be laughing at the idiocy of the usa as well :P
