So I got this new job and the pay is good and the people are awesome. But half the day I have nothing better to do than surf the web. If anyone has any great time wasters that might result in something productive let me know.

This thread should be something like: being productive/entertained with downtime :)

I'd like to get a hackey sack to play while waiting for the bus at night, it takes 30-60 minutes per bus and I've got two.

If at work though I generally read news or personal development/finance/productivity sites.
Here are links I spend time on:

Maybe bust out google reader, or an rss reader and get on some of the above :D

Also you might want to get a radio that can play NPR or BBC world news, or some sort of streaming talk show that's interesting and newsworthy and that you don't have to mess with. I suggest a normal FM radio so you don't play with it much, but software is fine if you can set & forget.

Jobs where you get bored can become the worst jobs on earth. The days just get longer and longer.

Personally unless I am commanding a robotic army to enslave the human race and bring them forcefully into a thousand year rule of tyranny (for their own good of course).... I am pretty sure I'll always have one last string of regret holding me back.

I had a meeting with Wooldrige this week. he offered to get his publisher to hire me set up the supplementary material for Introductory Econometrics, so that it could be taught to students using R as well as Stata. score. not an awesome task but I get to promote R.
