biden countered well, strong all around!

i would have liked for there to have been more of a fight for mccain though.

palin isn't apparently vp material.

the law is no protection
Palin was way better than she was in her interviews with Couric and (even more so) Gibson. she seemed more well-rehearsed, but that was kind of the problem. everything she said sounded like it was just something she had memorized that was superficially related to the question. by about halfway through, she was mostly saying the same stuff over again and really gave me the impression of just not being able to think for herself or construct an argument.

Biden came across as smart and was very on-point. he made arguments well and I think he did a great job of not going after Palin too hard to the point of seeming mean or condescending. watching his facial expressions while she was talking was really funny though. he audibly sighed at one point.

I get the idea that it would have been to easy to completely rip into Palin for him. I mean he even held off when she was saying the generals name wrong. Palin did what I expected her to do, and that was recite talking points and not stray from those. I'm assuming this debate for her was all about damage control and if she made it out of there without saying anything overly stupid and image degrading then it was a success for her.

and cnn kind of pissed me off with there post debate analysis. they kept talking about how palin used the language of the middle-class people and how that is gonna get her support. I fail to see how if she can barley describe what the powers of VP are.

wish they had asked them about book banning. since they both support it. or about the fact that both of them are adamantly opposed to the 4th amendment.

And book banning?! That's quite possible even more scary!

Alan Moore has good quote about book banning, specifically the banning of ... Anne Frank.

"There's only one group wanting the banning of the Diary of Anne Frank, and I don't care what they call themselves today."

Paraphrased, obviously, but you get the point.

Biden: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10024163-38.html
Under Baby food bombs.

Short form: He had a 20 year old kid arrested for putting the anarchist's cookbook on his website.

Palin: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/09/pol … 0259.shtml
Pretty straightforward

Short form: Apparently she had inquired about censoring books with a local librarian. The librarian of course dropped the WTF NOES. And Palin attempted to have her fired.

As for the fourth ammendment

Biden basically wrote the patriot act and was first in line to sign up for it. He also voted for FISA.

He could give a rats ass about the constitution.

Palin has yet to be given the opportunity to vote on bills directly opposed to the fourth amendment. But judging by her rhetoric, he own administrative practices, and her platform... I think it's a pretty safe bet that she's got no clue what the fourth amendment is.

A friend of mine was briefly held on a domestic terrorism charge when he made a bomb and blew it up in a field. He was only 15 and the cops realized it was just a kid being stupid, not a terrorist at work so they let him go. Gotta love the boonies.

I consort with terrorists and I love the 4th amendment.

the law is no protection
thanks for the links, nny. good to know. too bad no one gives a shit about this stuff or wants to talk about it :/.

assuming you are being serious lucas, I will respond seriously. I've heard this argument often: that you have nothing to worry about unless you are committing a crime. I, however, resent the lack of value that this places on personal privacy. the issue isn't so much that I want to hide criminal activities from the government as it is that giving the government the power to, for example, see what library books I have checked out, places a ridiculous amount of power and oversight in the hands of an entity that I do not implicitly trust to be wise with said power.

hypothetically, since the government now has this power, they could decide in the future to crack down on dissent way more hardcore than they do currently. so now I have some book checked out that is on some sort of watchlist, I talk about something on the web that is deemed unsavory, or I take a position or stand up for something that causes me to become an alleged threat to whatever the government claims to be protecting; next thing I know, I'm in jail awaiting trial under some new law.

bottom line is, the ability to invade privacy and conduct unwarranted searches places more power in the hands of the government than I am comfortable with.
