nothing is wrong - what are you scared of?
so wait.. are you developing film and printing or just doing the film?
printing too. i have a beseler printmaker 35 enlarger.

nothing is wrong - what are you scared of?
oh okay

nothing is wrong - what are you scared of?
so does that enlarger only accept 35mm? I don't really know much about the enlarger numbers :P
it can enlarge 120, but it supposedly vignettes it a bit.
the printmaker 35 is exactly the same as the printmaker 67, except that the former has a smaller lens (thus the vignetting with larger film).

phi_: i just got the tank and reels. seems like a pretty sweet setup. thanks!

nothing is wrong - what are you scared of?
nice. have you started developing yet?
nope, i'm still waiting for everything to get here. i'm starting on the plumbing tomorrow. i need to run some copper pipe for a faucet and some pvc for a drain. i'm also going to frame a couple walls, probably.
i just got all of my chemicals! d-76, dektol, stop, fixer, hypo, and photo-flo! woo--
all of my gear arrives next week. i can't wait for this action.
i ditched this:
g.e. red 11 watt bulb ($4.29 @ freestylephoto.biz)
and i bought this instead:
arkay 5x7" with oc filter and 15 watt lamp ($34 @ bhphotovideo.com)
and i want a few more things:
ilford anti-static cloth ($10.49)
delta photo pen ($1.95)
samigon bamboo print tongs, set of 3 ($4.95)
paterson 45ml graduate ($5.95)
chemical storage bottle, 32 oz. (5 @ $1.95)
i'm also going to watch ebay for an enlarger timer.
here's my final setup, organized differently.
chemicals
kodak d-76 film developer powder, 1 gallon ($5.79 @ fs)
kodak dektol paper developer powder, 1 gallon ($6.29 @ fs)
kodak fixer powder, 1 gallon ($5.49 @ fs)
kodak hypo clearing agent powder, 5 gallons ($5.99 @ fs)

kodak photo-flo 200 16 oz. ($7.99 @ fs)
dry side
beseler printmaker 35 enlarger ($50 via craigslist)
beseler full-frame negative carrier (free, thanks becky!)
time-o-lite m-59 ($18.74 via ebay)
beseler 8 x 10" quick easel ($8.95 @ bh)
arkay 5x7" with oc filter and 15 watt lamp ($33.95 @ bh)
ilford 13 x 13" anti-static cloth ($10.49 @ bh)

paterson 32 oz. plastic graduate ($9.50 @ bh)

paterson plastic developing trays, set of 3 ($11.95 @ bh)
yankee plastic developing trays, set of 3 ($9.95 @ bh)

smoothee 9" squeegee ($16.95 @ bh)

delta 6" darkroom thermometer ($4.95 @ bh)
chemical storage bottle, 128 oz. (4 @ $3.49 @ bh)
kalt 32 oz. chemical storage bottle (5 @ $1.95 @ bh)
bh shipping costs: $32.15
fs shipping costs: $4.99
total, including shipping: $345.07
so, over budget? :o
so i'm going to stick with these chemicals:
kodak hypo clearing agent powder 5 gal. ($5.99 @ fs)
kodak indicator stop bath 16 oz. ($5.99 @ fs)
kodak photo-flo 200 16 oz. ($7.99 @ fs)
but i'm going to try these for a change:
agfa rodinal 17 oz. ($16.99 @ fs)
ilford multigrade paper developer 5 l ($39.99 @ fs)
ilford hypam fixer 5 l ($22.99 @ fs)
i just bought some things that i'm going to try out for the first time:
fomapan 400 film -- it intrigues me with its alleged wide exposure latitude.
fomabrom vc fb variant iv 8x10 velvet semi-matte -- i want some semi-matte paper, and the only semi-matte from ilford is warm-tone and more expensive. this is cheaper and neutral-tone.
ilford hypam fixer -- it comes in liquid form, which will be nice to mix up small batches. and it's very inexpensive compared to ilford rapid fixer and kodak rapid fixer. i hope there isn't a reason why it's so cheap.
dru
The Art of Subconscious Illusion
if you get this rolling, you might have to let me develop some of my 120mm film from my Bronica.
it's indeed rolling.
dru
The Art of Subconscious Illusion
ah i see!
i didn't read everything.
Next step is actually taking some pictures with my camera :0)
ilford hypam fixer has quickly become my fixer of choice. it's cheap (even cheaper than kodak rapid fixer!) and it's liquid (no mixing powder--db was right--it sucks!).
oh, and dru, is it 120mm film or 120 film? 120 film is 6cm (60mm) wide.
hovering over dektol, stop bath, and rapid fixer makes me want to vomit after a few hours.
need some ventilation :O
Étrangère
I am not a robot...
ack, knock that off!
my darkroom now has a beseler 67 dichro!
:D
i think i'm going to miss using normal b&w vc filters. :/
how'd you get that? damn.
it was listed on craigslist for $100 in billings! /o/
so no one here wants a beseler printmaker 35 with a 35mm neg carrier and a 50mm lens?
what about a set of ilford 3.5" filters?
i really need to rig up some ventilation, seal off the remaining light leaks, build a print washer, and start putting in 14-hour days in my darkroom.
those are the three things really holding me back right now.
also, these things would be nice, but not necessary:
* tap
* sink
* workbench to put my trays on, so i'm not constantly bending over
* non-piece-of-shit easel
Étrangère
I am not a robot...
Have you listed your old enlarger on craigslist?
not yet.
on ebay, i bought an 11x14" archival print washer for $80 an 8x10" easel for $12.
--
from elsewhere,
get ten more binder clips
get rubbing alcohol
get the archival print washer
from freestyle photo,
buy 100 sheets of arista rc 5x7" semi-matte
buy a red paterson 16x20" tray
buy a white paterson 16x20" tray
buy foma r09 developer
buy a residual hypo testing kit
on craigslist,
sell set of three paterson 8x10" trays
--
then i'm all done!
i can process 135-film.
i can print 135-film cropped or full-frame.
i can print on rc up to 11x14".
i can print on fb up to 8x10".
--
when i want to print 11x14" fb paper, i'll need:
* an 11x14" easel
* an 11x14" blotter book
when i want to process 120- or 220-film, i'll need:
* a 6cm reel
when i want to print 120- or 220-film, i'll need:
* the beseler #6740 (6x4.5cm), #6741 (6x6cm), or #6742 (6x7cm)
* an 80mm enlarging lens
--
doing film larger than 6cm or paper larger than 11x14" will require significant equipment upgrades.

1. why are you getting 16x20 trays?
2. why only 2 of said trays?
3. ...you bought 11x14" rc?
> 1. why are you getting 16x20 trays?
i wanted them to be at least 11x14" so i could utilize my new washer to its full potential. paterson doesn't make an 11x14" tray; the smallest size they make at least that large is 12x16". sorry, the '16x20"' was a typo.
> 2. why only 2 of said trays?
i already got a set of three. i want two more so i have five total (dev, stop, hypo, water, hca).
> 3. ...you bought 11x14" rc?
no.
Étrangère
I am not a robot...
Those first two make sense now.
But I don't follow why your max print sizes for rc and fiber don't match.
my current easel is 8x10". i need an easel to hold down fb (because it curls), but i don't really need one for rc.
my current blotter book is 8x10". i need a blotter book to dry fb but not rc (i just hang up rc to dry).
those are my two current limiting factors for fb paper size.
the limiting factor for rc paper size is my tray size (12x16"), my enlarging height (i could project onto the floor, i suppose). also, my tray washing method sucks, so i'd like to use my new archival print washer for rc too (which is 11x14").
