I always use a dash before my tar flags. I'm not sure why, but it works just the same.

tar -xzvf
scp -P
ssh -p
rm -r

tar doesn't require a dash because the first argument letter must be an action (e.g., extract), i think.

i should submit a patch to openbsd that contains freebsd's code for `ls -G`.

it was a joke. someone on misc@ was making fun of linux, saying that linux devs would do something like import color ls into the kernel.

I think colorized ls is nice, but not the christmas tree colors GNU ls / Linux uses ... I just think it's easier if symlinks, dirs, and files are different colors, especially wth large directories with lots of clutter (i.e. my ~/).

+++ath0 modem command that causes modem's to hang up. when winmodems reappeared, or when winmodems were used in tandem with AOL, the guard wait that had been added back in BBS days... was distinctly missing. Apparently someone didn't want to pay hayes for access to the patent on it.

as a result... any instance of +++ath0 going to a vulnerable modem would cause it to hang up.

So I wrote an IRC bot that looked for AOL users and pinged them with the pattern.

The bot was quiet and sat in large channels and would... reset the modems of people. I originally wrote it to target a particular friend but, out of curiousity we ran it in #teen on dalnet to see how long it could go undetected. It took them several months to track it down... via a painful trial and error process but when they finally did they klined the bot.

I was kind a dick when I was a kid.

I bought it on DVD some time ago ... All the version available for download had crappy subtitles ... In fact, the English subtitles on the DVD are crap too, but the Dutch ones are fine ...
The DVD also has English spoken re-dubbed sound ... Haven't tried it yet though...

In any case, it's a pretty good movie IMO.
Haven't seen the new one yet, yesterday I saw the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still and I've reaffirmed that remakes always suck (With the one notable exception of the bodysnatchers) ... So I fear the new one will also suck...

> aw, not the original Russian one? I've tried to watch it a few times but have fallen asleep both of them.

The first ~30 minutes orso is pretty boring, it gets much more interesting later in the movie.
