explorer.exe constantly crashes
firefox intermittently crashes
iexplore.exe constantly crashes

here's what i've done:
msconfig
reboot in diagnostic mode
ran clamwin & mccaffe virus scans
reboot in safemode to clear more out.

before, it was redirecting every link on any website to an ad page. then at random times it would just open ad links in new windows, then weird stuff was happening in windows.

i dunno it found Vondo or something, and some other trojans and a few viruses.

this is the first time i got hit with something that really has pissed me off.

i'm trying to backup my stuff to my external, but explorer keeps crashing.
i'm going to try loading a live OS from a usb stick once i get it back from my friend. the one i have doesn't read properly. and my external drive doesn't seem to want to boot backtrack.

using winXP SP2 on my thinkpad X60s

which open source OS's work well on X60s's? seriously considering!!

oh yeah, and i'm typing this up on my old laptop -- the screamer :p

i'm also unable to click on user names to login to my computer now, at times. i am forced to hard reboot.

i just tried using my external to boot from. it does nothing even when i have it solely as the boot option. "USB HDD".

Ah, yeah, it does have apm. Acpi may be an issue, then.
