forking from
torrent trackers , this thread is for what.cd-specific discussion.

have you seen
post a picture of yourself lately? it's
so stupid. ugh
I hate the Lounge. I only post in Elite or in the Tech forum there... rest is too chaotic
all i need is 0.50gb more upload, then i'll become a power user (again)!
let me reiterate: it is
fucking stupid that bounty added to a request is deducted from the user's uploaded amount. for example, you're of the
elite class with 250gb uploaded and 100gb downloaded. you decide to donate 240gb to a request that you really want to see fulfilled.
two weeks later, your account is disabled.
ref:
larz and bluet got screwed
:( sorry guys, I didn't know you were that gung-ho :)
it's not your fault. i just think that most trackers do stupid things, and
what.cd is no exception.
write your own code that is foolproof. from the coding stuff I've seen you do it will be simpler and better than anything else.
thanks, nestor. :)
as i think you know, i tried to join the www.waffles.fm development team. i passed a couple of their tests that they give to potential developers. i hung around in their irc channel awaiting further instruction. after waiting for months, i finally gave up on it. evidently the lead dev was too busy to further instruct me.
perhaps it's poor form of me to complain about what.cd's software (gazelle) without offering a better alternative. i've looked for the gazelle source code, and as far as i know, it is only released to a select group of individuals. if i had it, i could easily submit a patch for this issue (which i would argue is a bug). but i doubt that the patch would be well-received.
i think i'm going to try to create a stylesheet for the contest.
i'm a power user again! :D
nestor:
your request is currently #7. if you add 1.12gb to it, it will become #6. do it! (or i'll do it once i can afford it.)
go go #6!
bam
awesome. it would cost 100gb to get it to #5. :o
indeed.
i just posted this:
new `spent` field for users instead of deducting tax & bounty from `upload` field
here's something that i recently experienced:
i had an uploaded amount of about 60gb and downloaded amount of about 15gb. i was a power user. i decided to help a friend out with his request, so i donated a bunch (about 40gb). suddenly i was no longer a power user.
i think that bounty and tax shouldn't be taken directly from the `upload` field. i think that, instead, there should be a field for each user called `spent`.
the idea is that:
(a) user classes are determined by the `upload` field.
(b) ratio requirements are calculated from [(upload - spent) / download].
--
here's a hypothetical example for rebuttal:
suppose that you're of the elite class with 250gb uploaded and 95gb downloaded. you decide to donate 200gb to a request that you really want to see fulfilled. suddenly, you're no longer of the elite class.

... and I have a membership invite from Larz. Thanks. haha
would you mind seeding my upload, please?

i saw uberfry's profile with some hex code, so i tried to figure it if it was an encoded message. i couldn't decode it, so i just messaged it to him in base 10 to see what he would say.
but i guess he's more confused than me. :/

hahahaha what an awesome exchange.
there is a site that recruits from the what.cd power users. instead of giving out invites they ask you to generate a code and paste it in your profile as he did. sorry, no conspiracy :)
so why the fuck would he think about reporting me because i saw his code?
99.9999% of the internet population is disappointing.
what.cd has been terribly slow for me for the past day or two.
what.cd is now on relative time.
i got torrentmaster
oops.
> what.cd is now on relative time.
whatcha mean? like ttf, the relative times have absolute titles.
perhaps it's poor form of me to complain about what.cd's software (gazelle) without offering a better alternative. i've looked for the gazelle source code, and as far as i know, it is only released to a select group of individuals. if i had it, i could easily submit a patch for this issue (which i would argue is a bug). but i doubt that the patch would be well-received.
if you haven't seen this before, the source is listed on their wiki now!

shit is so slow-loading
http://whatinterviewprep.webs.com/
here's a guide to getting in for the public :D
to summarize recent what.cd policy changes briefly and completely,
1. freely available music may now be uploaded
2. flac is the only lossless compression allowed (torrents without flac may have other lossless formats grandfathered)
3. aac and ogg rules have become more strict
4. power users must always have 5 uploads, elite 50, and torrentmasters 500
also, the bullying moderation team has changed.

What's happening?
Yesterday, we began experiencing unusually high load on our primary site server. While attempting to fix the problem, the database crashed. We have been in the process of recovery since last night, with all of our sysops and developers working on the problem. We are also in contact with our host, who is confident that there has been no data lost. Please bear with us.
Our chat is still running, and updates will be given there first. Feel free to join irc.what-network.net.
Thanks for your patience. We'll see you soon!
(from what.cd)
nestor,
wanna add some bounty to
this ? ;D
it's currently #450 by bounty. :(
i voted it up!
added 7GB or so
hmmm.. you should know that XLD is widely regarded in lossless-freak circles as just as good as EAC.
ok, thanks for the info. i think what.cd's log-checker only works on eac logs, though. i'll stick with the description.
but i'll check out xld. :)
i wish i could just willy nilly drop 7GB on upload bounty. i'd get banned. this is me bowing to the torrent master.
bahhaa i actually lost torrent master because i couldn't keep my uploads seeding :\
oh why not?
recently i started seeding all my stuff on my laptop again - after reorganizing it by tracker (yes!).
i finally uploaded some stuff too, hopefully i get some gigz for it!
do you have a reliable internet connection these days?
not really, i'm at the library for finals week. it's open the entire week.
i borrowed somebody's usenet account yesterday. i have only used usenet like twice and i kinda figured it out this time. i ran out of space on my laptop pretty quick. it's overwhelming how much data is on usenet, and how fast you can get it.
i gotta figure out what i'm going to do for the summer. it's too hot in my house already these days.
lastly i need to spend some time and find out how to point torrents on one tracker to files for another tracker on euterpe/rtorrent.
Does this mean it was just undiscovered this whole time and someone filled the request by finding it?
"Uploaded by Tourag 2 weeks, 3 days ago"
i think this is what happened:
the log score was at 95%, because the audio cache was not disabled.
inasafeplace found the torrent, reported it to get the audio cache marked "okay" by a moderator, then grabbed the bounty.
i have contacted a moderator to confirm that the log score was changed recently. i have also unfilled the request.
p.s. thanks for the bounty, nestor!
ssl.what.cd uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate expired on 6/27/2009 12:29 AM.
not surprising.
https://ssl.what.cd/forums.php?action=viewthr … adid=53549
and it's still not replaced.
maybe next time they'll forget to renew their domain.

what is this--amateur hour?!

thinks darkness is his ally
anyone know what's going on with what? it's been down since yesterday and now there's an ominous 404 page
it is down for database maintenance or something
i've never understood their heading "move along..."
are they telling me to go away?

> are they telling me to go away?
with their apparent user turnover... probably! it's hard to find a popular thread on the forums without at least a few posts from banned users
Maybe because the community primarily seems to consist out of elitist snobs with retarded views about torrents and how stuff works in real life.
