I'm compiling XFCE on a G3 iMac that is sitting next to my bed right now and the sound of files being written to the hard drive is kind of soothing. I anticipate it being nice to fall asleep to.

back in first year when I was living in res I built my pc with a raptor, it was so loud and annoying :(

... and let the Earth be silent after ye.
I had an old 1GB hard drive in an ancient computer, and when compiling a new kernel it was 5 hours of GRRR-KRM-GRRR-KRM-GRR-KRM. It wasn't soothing as much as infuriating.

some scsi drives sound very good. i prefer hard drive noise to fan noise :)

Heh I used to have old full heights... when they spun up... it sounded like the system they were in was about to take off. Cool noise though.

I might be falling asleep to this again tonight. compiling stuff on a G3 takes an awfully long time.
