* amazon no longer does a 30-day price guarantee.
* borders no longer offers exchange or store credit without a receipt.
* barnes and noble no longer offers exchange or store credit without a receipt.

i had two books (in very good condition) that i no longer wanted. i bought these books in 2005 from borders. i took them back to borders yesterday, and she refused to give me store credit. (i was unaware of the new return policy.)

yet, for some reason, this cute girl at barnes and noble gave me store credit for the books. the price listed on each of them was $12.99 US. when she scanned them, they weren't listed in their POS system, meaning that they have never carried them. she looked up the market prices by ISBN--$14.99 and $17.98. my books appreciated 27% over four years. she gave me a gift card with a balance of $32.94.

that girl was unbelievable. i thanked her about three times then fled the store.

this is the reason that i bought my d90 from b&h. for large purchases, i want a retailer that will be willing to help me out, even if their price is a bit higher.
