I was just kinda wondering if anyone has any experience with this. I've kinda formed an interest in it since i've started playing around in photoshop and have since developed a web design that I would like to actually get setup as a homepage.

so yeah, anyone got any good sites with some refrences, tuts, etc? I've looked around a bit an I haven't found anything very good yet.

yeah, i have ten years of experience with it.

i'd recommend going to websites and hitting ctrl+a and seeing where they cut images. then maybe look at the css to see how they places background images.

if you slice up a design and make the html/css, i can critique the page if you'd like.

well I finally got around to doing it. Had to make a web page for our novell class so i thought i would take the opportunity to give it a go.

http://sob.urdw.com/images/Novell.htm

I basically made 3 slices, one from the top to just under the gray area to the right of the News tab. Another small slice out of the middle section, then finally the bottom of the box and the footer box.

The css I mostly copied from a tutorial but after some tweaking worked out pretty well.

I actually learned a decent amount but theres still tons I dont really understand. I'm actually thinking about picking up a book this summer and learning more about it because I actually have quite a bit of fun doing this.

So I've started another page. I got my hands on a copy of fireworks and this program has pretty much made making the css a piece of cake. the page can be viewed here: http://sob.urdw.com/

I have come to find out that, the css isn't perfect and requires some tinkering to make everything fit. Also, I'm noticing that for some reason, this page isn't IE friendly. For some reason, the Nav bar slices get a padding maybe on the bottom and cause the bottom slice to be off. Also, the background does not seem to appear but it shows up fine on firefox.

well solved the background problem. apparently IE doesn't like jpg's in the CMYK color mode. saved it as a gif in RGB color mode and showed up.
