I just find it funny how people get worked up on a word rather than the words use.

How do we know what to stop using if they say the "r-word" instead of retard.

Retards.

I find it funny how people tend to dismiss all discussion of political-correctness by lumping everyone who wants to end derogatory usage of a word in with morons who don't use un-PC terms because they are more concerned with their own personal comfort than anything else.

Man, that's some retarded nigger shit right there.

not cool, phi_. what's the point of saying something like this?

well i just think it's stupid that people are worrying about this when we have bigger problems in our country than what someone finds offensive

while I understand your frustration, I don't think that having concern for one issue necessarily detracts from my concern for another. that's just personal, though. at a more official level, I can see your point. if our entire national political discourse was consumed with this then it would most definitely detract from a lot of more pressing things getting done. I still think this deserves attention though.

yeah, it's not like the special olympics would be helping fix the economy if they weren't undertaking this "r-word" campaign. should non-profits and special interest groups just sit on their hands until the consensus is that things are peachy?

i would guess that the media is hurting with a major decline in advertising revenue. i'm sure the media (and the country as a whole) would welcome spending on advertising by clients such as the special olympics.

> not cool, phi_. what's the point of saying something like this?

Because the whole thing is funny to me, and that was the only rational response I had.

People like me? I've had to deal with my fair share of that kind of language.

If someone gets upset at the phrase retarded nigger shit they have other things to worry about.

I agree with both of you here. I think that everyone has had their fair share of hate thrown at them, some more than others. But still if someone is offended by the use of a word then the use should be changed IMO. The word will be here and still carry the same meaning, but maybe people can be more sensitive about it.
