looks like a great deal.
i'd recommend buying two tubes and a new chain. :)
if you can locate the squeak, i can help you try to fix it. perhaps it's a brake pad rubbing on the rim?

Looks a lot like my bike. Similar condition, too
i don't think it's the break pad, it seems like it's at the axle. i've been waiting to ride this thing but i haven't been able to put any money toward it. i'll get the tubes and a new chain and some grip tape when i am able.
i just read some great things about the shimano 600 groupset :]
ive got a shimano 590
you should be able to get two tubes for $6 to $8. if you want to get it usable very cheaply, you can probably find a patch kit for $2 or so. just keep in mind that if the tubes are really old, a new pair is probably worth the money.
but i still have the problem of the inflation nub being severed, or missing. i'll probably have to get the tube.
...and i don't have $6.
oh right.
what size are the wheels? i have an extra 700c tube.
27", would the 700c be slightly too small?
it would be too large.
i should have kept my old tape and given it to you--it was still in pretty good condition.
hm it seems like it would be too small...
http://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html
Fractional sizes:
29 inch
622 mm This is a marketing term for wide 622 mm ("700c") tires.
27 x anything
630 mm Older road bikes
ISO Cross Reference:
ISO Bead Seat Diameter Traditional Designations
635 mm 28 x 1 1/2, 700 B
630 mm 27 x anything
622 mm 700 C, 28 x (two fractions), 29 inch
(28 x 1 1/2 F.13 Canada)
maybe i have this all wrong?
well i thought that 26"ers were smaller than 700c, and i also thought that 27"ers were smaller than 700c. but, yeah, i guess they are larger...
it's weird to me that 27" is 630mm, but 28" and 29" are 622mm.
silly bikes
❤ standardization!
well, there should be no problem with using a 700c tube on a 27" rim. it should be able to stretch the extra 8mm. :)
DP: DO YOU BUSS
PRESTAS OR
SCHRADERS ?
schraders i think :o
you better be sure--because prestas will fit in schrader-holes, but schraders won't fit in presta-holes.
or perhaps you'd take a drill to your rim? :o
i'm at safeway at the moment otherwise i'd check right now!
schraders i know!

just got my suteki in working order!
new:
three tubes (surprise two for one deal)
grip tape
fixed:
replaced tubes
replaced grip tape
adjusted derailleur settings
greased up joints
tightened/adjusted breaks
cool. what size of tubes did you buy? which valve?
you didn't have to buy grease?
what condition is the chain in? how about the brake cables and derailleur cables? it seems to me that these are often rusty on old bikes and need replaced.
i got the 700x28-32 road tube (27x1.25") with schrader valve. i used some of my uncle's bike grease.
the chain seems alright, it is a bit dirty but it's not all rusty. the cables are a little rusty and I may end up having to change it later.
fortunately chains are a cheaper repair so i'll probably do it. i'm assuming the cables are decently cheap as well, so those are next buys. i also need a security setup and some lights for night riding.
dreams of riding last night!
get some degreaser and see how clean you can get the chain. then get some chain lube to put on it. luckily you shouldn't need different chain lube in the winter.
cables should only be a couple bucks each (or less). but the cable housing may have rust in it, too. luckily the housing isn't too expensive, and you should be able to buy it by the foot at a local shop.
rei had onguard locks on sale, but i think that's over with.
i went the bike light route. if i were to do it again, i'd get deep into researching flashlights and buy a badass one. often you can buy a way to quickly attach the flashlight to your handlebar. otherwise, you could rig up your own solution. i'm just not convinced that many of the made-for-bikes lights are worth the price.
good luck!
i bought a lock today on a thick 32" chain, and put a deposit down on a key for the bike lockers on campus. i am a bit worried about the lock. after i got it i think i remember it being at defcon last year. anyway it still seemed better than the other locks available there.
after riding around today i noticed the breaks squeak kinda loud and also that the secondary break levers are less effective at coming to a quick stop.
i'm keeping the cables, housing, and a legitimate flashlight on the buy list for later.
to solve the squeaky brakes, you might be able to pull off the pads and file them down a bit to a rough and even surface.

i rode around a few more hours. i noticed part of the problem with the breaks is that the front needs adjusting, i adjusted the back a few days ago but i need to make the front a shorter pull of the break lever. otherwise all seems well and i'll work on the pads!
i like the bike locker rfid keys!
this dude saw me riding and he thought it was a miyata, namely his miyata that was stolen. he chased me down and met me with my headphones on while i was in the bike cage at campus.
he recommended me that i get some smaller 23C's to go faster.
it does look quite a bit similar:
