i'm thinking of ways to buy things that i want. here's one of my ideas:

spend less than $1/day on food. this would probably save me $300 in a month.

i can get a pair of krk monitors. 'cause i want my music louder! within a month's time!

:D

you can save some money if you have a bunch of data that needs to get in to s3 for the next few months: http://aws.amazon.com/s3/

if you get tired of eggs for breakfast, you might consider malt-o-meal hot cereal. a 26oz box will probably last you longer than you'd want to finish in a month. i have a 36oz box that i've barely put a dent in. on the servings it says about 23 per box (for 36oz). it costs around $5 a box for the 26oz, unless you buy on amazon, somehow it's $29.99 proxy through a seller. i bet you can find it in bzmt grocery stores though.

and i've tried doing the rice thing. i made the mistake of getting brown rice. it takes way too long to cook, and it makes a terrible mess in (and all around) my cooker.

what we used to do was make a bunch of rice and freeze it in ziplock bags, and then reheat with a microwave and it worked out pretty well. i don't have a microwave now or ziplock bags so i haven't really been bothering with rice. my mini cooker makes too much for just me to eat, and i don't know any other decent way to store the rice for about 3-4 days to finish it later.

if anyone has any tips on brown rice goop or storing rice, share!

the law is no protection
put it in some tupperware in the fridge? that would last 3–4 days I bet.

i used to be a cream of wheat fan, but now i buy cream of the west.

i usually buy long grain white rice and cook it on the wet side.

i don't have a microwave either. i got rid of my rice cooker because i'm fine with cooking it in a pot.

perhaps what you should do is cook up a bunch of rice then refrigerate it. when you want to eat some of it, fry it up with an egg and some oil and whatever spices you want. i like fried rice and it seems like it would be a good reheating method for those of us without microwaves.
