depends on the efficiency of capturing the energy
that's what i was thinking, unless the sun emits a countable number of photons of a known frequency (or average frequency). then you could calculate the number of joules the sun produces. but how many of those photons "reach the surface of the earth?"
About 1 in 2.25 billion would reach the atmosphere.
