I've begun opting out of call centers. Whenever I get some indian dude named jeff / steve / tommy on the phone. I let them know I've opted out of their services and hang up on them.

good idea. if you actually take the time to say, "could you remove me from your calling list?" most places will do just that.

no... i don't think you understand. not just advertising. technical support, credit card companies, any time I need to call someone and I end up at a call center... I opt out.
I refuse to deal with them anymore on any level.

so, say you need to deal with a call center before they'll escalate the issue to the level that you require. what to do then? if you're just talking to them for tech support or something they are totally worthless and are just reading a script, but sometimes you have to pretend to unplug your modem and wait thirty seconds and a bunch of other bs before they'll send someone out. this might not be the type of call you're talking about either, but it's one of the situations in which I've had to deal with a call center.

I refuse to talk to them. That simple.

ok, have fun without an internet connection if you ever end up in that situation then.

It's pointless calling those retards.

yeah, trying to fix stuff like that with them is pointless. I'm just saying there are situations like when you know for a fact that a technician needs to visit your house and do some crap in the phone box to get your dsl connection working, and you've gotta jump through a few hoops involving call centers.

I work in a call center and I don't read off a script.
Yes. I'm just that good. :)

You know what... there's always using pbx options to get to an operator.
Or calling random numbers until someone directs you to someone useful. I'd rather spend three hours doing that than three hours on hold for no reason at all.
yeah, i definitely don't try to maneuver through the computer systems. i press 0s, #, *s, button mash.. stay silent.. these things generally get you to a human.
I remember those logs.

after working at a call center for a long time and calling businesses trying to get in touch with very specific people, I have become very skilled at getting past automated systems to a human. I'm also really good at talking on the phone. in a weird way I'm glad I had that job.
i'm utter shit at talking on the phone, for important calls i always make notes before i call, haha

Other cool trick.. on those voice activated systems.
Say "agent" a lot.

I make mental manuscripts. :D

I make notes too! I'm just better at winging it, or knowing when to interrupt or start speaking during a pause.
