i remember these posts, for instance.

the driver on my right earbud is fucked. guy at Headroom said they'd send me out a new pair this week though. great service! especially since it took me almost a month to notice the driver was blown by cranking my music ridiculously loud.

all in all, not so impressed with the service. it hasn't sucked, but hasn't exactly been great either.

i bought a
silva polaris compass from rei recently. when it arrived, i noticed that it either wasn't accurate, or it was extremely finicky (taking into account
declination). i called rei, asking them if they'd like to replace the product, or if i should contact the manufacturer. the rei agent told me she'd handle it. she sent me a new one, and she said i didn't even have to bother with sending back the defective unit because it's so low-cost! :D
so i sent the original defective unit to the manufacturer for realignment under the lifetime accuracy warranty. :o

renting stuff from
http://www.borrowlenses.com/ is pretty nice. I returned a lens a few days early once and they rewarded me with a 10% off next time discount. this is also the company that I rented from when my package got stolen. They were very nice about it all, and while they kind of wanted me to pay for half of the cost of the stolen goods, they eventually dropped the case.
well they should have been able to file a claim with fedex and got reimbursed within 90 days.
but they sound nice enough.

I can't remember, andyp, did you say they did, or did not require signature delivery confirmation with that lost package?
andyp

they did, but the previous tenant in my apartment signed some waiver with fedex that allowed them to leave packages at the door even if they required a signature. fedex blamed me for it saying that I should have known about this waver and called them about it before i got the package delivered.

i hope you laughed in their (phone-) face.
i bought six of
these premium locking sata cables from newegg. i assumed that all locking cables had locking connectors on each end. these only locked on one end! they were expensive, too--$26.94 for six.
so i requested an rma today, and they charged a 15% restocking fee. so i emailed them, and told them that i'm a long-time repeat customer, and i feel that their product description didn't make it clear that only one end locks, and i'd like them to remove the restocking fee.
they already replied saying that they'll refund me $25 and i don't have to bother sending them back.
that's pretty similar to the rei deal in the first post. /o/

ThinkPad is here! the touchpad isn't working for some reason. I tried Fn+F8 and it told me the UltraNav driver wasn't installed, so I'm installing that now. it's not disabled in the BIOS, and it didn't work from my Ubuntu live CD either. hmmmmmmmmmm.
turns out it's the palmrest. I removed it and the ribbon cable going into the bottom of the touchpad is folded in such a way that there is a little rip in it. they're sending out a technician on Thursday to replace it I guess. pretty great service so far.
guy just left. he replaced the palmrest and it works now! I'm backing up all of my documents so I can install OpenBSD on this drive soon.

also, that rules, lucas!
i went to
headroom today. they don't do walk-in sales anymore. it sucks.

that does suck.
Fuck, those guys have 1500$ headphones. Fuck. Shit. OMG. Fuck!
bsdlite has the senn hd 650 and a micro amp.

they had the same sign in the window last april when i tried to take my 650s in :[ they used to be so cool
i called them this summer and they let me do a walk-in sale then.
weird.
i own a pair of the burgundy and black allen-edmonds shelton shoes. the right one has an obnoxious squeak every time i take a step. i'm almost certain that it is originating from the actual sole under the ball of the foot.
i emailed allen-edmonds late last night and described the problem. i told them that i've had the shoes for about six months, that i take care of them, and i don't have this problem with any of the other a-e shoes that i own.
they already replied early this morning. they asked me to ship the shoes to them. it sounds like they're going to take care of it! i'm excited to get this fixed. it's pretty nice of them to fix a problem with shoes that have been in use for six months already.

Yeah I have a pair of their shoes, they are pretty well known for taking care of issues.
i was worried that i'd have to buy a $100 recrafting package from them
they got the shoes on thursday. today i got a message that they found that the squeaking was coming from the tongue. they fixed it and are shipping them back. /o/
also, one of my
knotz unraveled. i contacted them, and they sent me a replacement pair with no questions asked! /o/
i contacted manfrotto for a replacement part for my tripod head that is under warranty. they linked me to a schematic, i pointed out the part i need, and they sent it free of change. now my tripod is working great. the representative was kinda weird, and they sent me the wrong part the first time. but ultimately i got the correct part, and my tripod is working well! /o/
allen-edmonds called today. they also discovered a squeak in the heel which they can't fix. so they're sending me a new pair.
i need another pair of AEs. i need a nice dark brown shoe, canalis look overpriced. already have black AE sohos.
i love the new walnut/brown shelton (
link), but it doesn't sound like what you're looking for.
two-tone reminds me of golf shoes.
yeah, i can see that. a-e definitely has some more casual saddle shoes.

are these freaky shoes you people wear actually comfortable? they look like they are stiff and hurty.
i think they're pretty comfortable if they're sized appropriately

I opened a case on ebay for the turntable I bought. auction said fully functional, turntable is most definitely not fully functional. return policy said no returns accepted, but I messaged the seller asking for a partial refund to get it repaired. no response, sent another message, no response again, so I decided to open a case and see if I can get a full refund. only thing that sucks is I'd have to ship it back. but I guess it's worth it.

gross, i hate them
i am getting AE augustas in walnut. size 13 b. apparently i am a freak and there are none in my size in toronto.

65% refund on the turntable! and I get to keep it. I can live with that.
headroom just repaired my bithead for free (it's in warranty). one of the jacks had a spotty connection. it was the jack that i used consistently for six months. i guess i probably broke the soldered connection. despite being my fault, they repaired it for me. :)
a pair of patagonia capilene 1 long underwear got some runs in the fabric. it was probably my fault, but i have never experienced this with any of my other capilene 1 items. i shipped them to patagonia. they promptly sent me a new replacement pair for free.

that's awesome
i called lenovo's u.s. support, which is ibm in hotlanta, georgia.
i told him that i have two issues:
1. the fan is very loud, the laptop is very hot, and it seems to be running slow.
2. the lcd has a discoloration, and i can see it when i open the bios, although it's most visible on white.
boom. case number, return box shipped. he said they will replace the fan assembly and the lcd. done.
:D
--
the lcd issue was pre-existing, but i was waiting until the end of the warranty period to fix it. the fan has been loud for a while, but it became extremely loud yesterday, hot and slow today.
that confirms who i'll buy my next laptop from.
i wonder how long my x60 will go. is anyone still using older x-series?
dbrown has my old x60s, and dannyp still has his (although i think his fan went out, too)
those damn fans. make sure you buy a warranty for how long you'll use the computer. it's worth it.
p.s. no hold time, no menus, and i really only said what i wrote above.
I'm still using my X60s. My fan has been screeching for years now. I disable it most of the time, though. That, combined with the SSD, makes it completely silent. I love it!
how is it possible to disable the fan without causing the laptop to overheat?
the SSD wasn't stock, was it? what model is it?
the bios on my thinkpad doesn't even let my computer start without the fan... :/ the rest is alright afaik
> how is it possible to disable the fan without causing the laptop to overheat?
I use thinkfan.
> the SSD wasn't stock, was it? what model is it?
Not stock, no. It's a Crucial C300 64 GB. The stock harddrive and its replacement have both failed.
> the bios on my thinkpad doesn't even let my computer start without the fan...
I press Esc when it complains. Then it boots.
i think i was able to do that a long time ago when it prompted me, but then i kept getting something like "Fan Error" and then it just stops booting altogether
i'm going to give it a shot though, i haven't looked at the thing for quite some time.
good tips bluet.
the thing stopping me from making upgrades (battery, hd, etc.) to my x60 is a hardware issue. every once in a while the screen turns off and won't turn on until i sleep / hibernate and wake it up.
I get "Fan Error" every so often. If I press Esc really fast, it boots anyway. When I recognize the error beeps, I start mashing.
Notebook fans are usually pretty cheap (€20-40)
