so when the new library opens we're going to have a classroom with a bunch of computers, a SMART Board, and all that cool stuff. we're going to offer classes there, but I don't think any plans for these have been finalized. since I want to become a teacher, they asked if I'd be interested in teaching any of the classes once we open up. I said yes.

what do you guys think would be cool topics? a lot of the stuff will have to be at a very basic level, but doing something like incorporating security and privacy aspects into an "introduction to webmail"-type class might be cool. any other ideas?

I ran an intro to unix course at NYCR. I didn't get much material covered in the three hours I allotted.

Covered directory structure, uid / pid / gid, some basic commands... not much else.

Honestly an Intro to unix deal will need to be either ( requires prior knowledge ) or be longer....

yeah, it would be cool to do stuff like that. I think I will have to gauge the interest in higher-level classes before doing anything.

Don't Let Your Walls Down
A class focused on apache and DNS. I would have to say that was my favorite class going through my undergrad. Don't know why, but something about learning that stuff on a linux distro was much funner than on windows.

I'm in the same position, I'm interviewing for a lecturing position thingy this week. I already have some base lectures but this topic is of interest to me too!
