with my nikon parts order, i got a replacement lcd monitor window along with the adhesive tape. i decided to replace my scratched window tonight.
i couldn't pry off the old window from the outside, so i had to take apart my camera. i had to remove two body panels (bottom then back). then i had to disassemble the button assemblies from the inside. after doing all of that, i managed to pop out the old window by pushing from the inside. it was difficult to remove.
i cleaned the area, applied the tape, then got the new window ready. the new window had a sheet of plastic on each side to protect it. i removed the inner one, applied the window, and placed the lcd in it.
there were a few specks of dust. long story short, after many anti-static wipes and a lot of time spent rubbing a microfiber cloth on it, it finally neared perfection. i reassembled the fucking thing and swore "never again!"
it's an ocd person's nightmare unless he or she has a cleanroom available.
