I figure it's relevant here.
People died in a horrific attack perpetrated by complete idiots. If anything 9/11 is a symbol of why we cannot simply try to ignore the foolish and the ignorant. 8 years on, I can't help but feel like we've given up far too much to this spectre of cataclysm and the fools that have driven themselves mad miscomprehending it. We really do need to put an end to the perversions of our own domestic fools.
Stop the bag checks. Get rid of the DHS. Turn the TSA back into the over glorified mall security they are at heart. And let America continue to be the land of the free and the home of the brave. Stop pissing on the graves of 3000 innocent people because you are scared.

So I've been watching police running about NY/NJ with automatic weapons nonstop for the past two weeks. And it's occurred to me in the past and now more than ever... WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY DOING WITH AUTOMATIC WEAPONS!?!
I mean they aren't storming the beaches of freaking normandy. If they try to use those things in a train station or some other crowd filled location they are inevitably hanging out at they are going to end up killing a bunch of innocent people. I mean these aren't exactly surgical weapons... they are designed to win by producing large volumes of "concentrated" fire.... and by concentrate we mean point it roughly in the direction of the person you are aiming at and you might hit them... of course when that person is in a crowd of people... every shot that doesn't hit them or goes through them will also hit people behind them.
What's more unsettling to me is that they think that terrorists are going to get into a small arms fight with them on US soil. When in the entire history of the US has a terrorist group chosen to get into a small arms fight on US soil? I mean where's the precedent here?
The whole thing is insane... in fact I've heard that the national guard at train stations aren't even allowed to carry loaded guns... their weapons are empty...

If they are semi auto why don't they use scoped rifles? I mean that would make more sense.
But beyond that... there's plenty of more sensible approaches...
Deploy some active denial systems or something. You don't need to carve people up to stop them in their tracks.
