that does look really nice.
It looks interesting, but I always have doubt about how usable such a device really is compared to books and if I would like it ...

the only scenario I can see myself using an ebook reader in is going back to school and getting all of my textbooks on it. I don't know how realistic this is, but I'm going to look into it.
as for regular reading, there is nothing I love more than used book stores so I can't really see myself going all digital. the ubiquity of printed books and the potential of finding really neat, rare stuff is too cool for me. and used books are usually really cheap. and they don't have batteries. being searchable would be cool though. all things considered, I really don't want to deal with the mess of formats, DRM, records of what books I own being "in the cloud" (both for privacy reasons but equally for data retention reasons), backing up data (can you even back up ebooks that you buy?), etc.
having subscriptions delivered to an ebook reader is a neat thing though, and I can see myself doing that if I had one for textbooks.
i think would be a great solution for viewing all my electronic archives, taking notes, reading books, and writing in the margins.
however, i am a sucker for the printed book, too. i love nice paper, good type, and hot cover art.
i often pay up to $5 more for better cover art, paper, and type.

amazon dropped the kindle's price by $40 recently to compete.
I don't like it. You can't zoom PDFs properly, and it breaks lines in weird places.

I got a sony prs-300 with my credit card points. no expandable memory which sucks but it will still be neat because I've never used an e-reader.

This has little to do with the Sony Reader and more with the PDF format.
No, it's possible to program a reader that zooms correctly.

I read The Time Machine on this today. it was a pleasant experience.

also, touchscreen page turning is great. I wish they had a visual indication of how far through a book you are. other than the page number. seeing more pages on the left than the right is a good feeling.
does it zoom pdfs nicely?
can you write in the margins with the stylus? if so, how are they saved and can they be exported?

I tried my Thinkpad user manual PDF on it and it doesn't break the text when I zoom in.
you can write anywhere on the page with the stylus. the writing isn't terribly accurate though. but you can also select passages and attach text notes to them. the stylus markup is stored in /database/markup/ebook_filename as
an svg and there is an
xml file stored in /Digital Editions/Annotations. text annotations are stored in the same xml file.

hm. this piece of paper that came with it says it should reflow text on pdfs.
that should be virtually impossible given the format
cool, so notes are stored in open formats. i wonder if any program catalogues that shit nicely

there's that. I don't know if it does anything with the notes/annotation on the device though.

it probably wouldn't be very difficult to write something yourself.

from @SonyReaderStore:
@brianpcurran We’re glad the Pocket Edition Reader impressed you! What do you look for in a digital reader device?
RT @brianpcurran Support for a lot of formats and openness. The filesystem access to my annotations, etc. in XML files is great!
haha
