This thread is to keep up with all things Virtualization. If you are running Windows you have three REAL choices:

1. VirtualBox
2. VMware
3. Parallels Desktop

I'm not going to cover qemu or any other VM software because anytime I've used it, it has been insanely slow. I must admit that for OS X I do prefer VMware. It seems fastest. Plus Windows 7 Aero is finally supported:

If you wish to discuss Server Virtualization technologies, by all means let me know.

Does anyone have experience with Xen vs KVM on the server side? It seems the major linux distros are moving to KVM now.

Andre: No. This is where I want this thread to go. KVM vs. Mainstream Virtualization. KVM is extremely slow from what I hear. However, the fuckin' Guest support is INSANE.

My beef with these types of software is the fact that they all used qemu as a base.

The move away from Xen was kinda surprising for me, but then I know next to nothing about these technologies.

I'm interested in virtualization!

What do you think of:

Virtual PC
Windows 2008 R2 w/Hyper-V

What other server virtualization software do you know about or suggest?

virtual pc works for boring, everyday stuff. I use it every day at work.

I use virtual box for work laptop. It's free and gets the job done. We have ESX environments at work so I make way more use of those.

I have a dl585 now... with vi3.5 on it. I use that at zeee work shop for my own stuff.

Xen is very good. Runs like a champ, and is getting easier and easier to work with. It's second only to ESX right now who is just racing along with crazy cool enterprise features like the new virtualized cisco soft switches. god people have been screaming for that stuff for a while now.
