oh man. i upgraded and rebooted. and it wouldn't mount the filesystems.

luckily slicehost is awesome. their slicemanager can install a new kernel for you.
now it works. (after i pooped my pants.)
Can Slicehost install it for you or do you have to install distro's yourself.

MediaTemple sucks as it only offers a shared SQL server and Bricks in Motion uses a ton of SQL queries, unnesicarry really, the code could do with rewriting.
you choose an os and they copy the image onto your slice. so yeah, it's preinstalled. i don't know how else they could do it.
slicehost has a lot of docs. it's pretty easy to figure out. go for it
i let apt upgrade a bunch of packages. it changed php.ini, i guess. it set short_open_tag to on!

I updated my machine at work and xorg wouldn't automatically find the correct resolution. Setting it manually from the output of "cvt" fixed it.

yeah we have an old dell gx system at our workshop as a public terminal... the intel support i845 i think... is utter crap. out of the box the bootsplash crashes the box.
