fulfillment by amazon
Fulfillment by Amazon has no minimum number of items required to use it. You can send one test item or a truckload.
...
Once inventory is in our fulfillment centers, you can choose to sell it on Amazon or not.
here's my take: amazon now offers storage/warehousing services! simply ship them things, and they'll store it for the low price of $5.85/(cu. ft. yr.). then when you want things back, they'll ship them back to you at an extremely reasonably rate.
so,
what will you store in amazon?

suppose you want to store 1 Tb of data. compare these services.
fba (aka ghetto s3)
load up a 1 Tb hdd with data. ship it to an amazon fulfillment center for storage. when you need the data, sell it to yourself with two-day shipping. that's a download rate of 5.787 Mbps.
upload: $10
storage per year: $5
download: $10
total cost for one year of storage: $25
aws s3
upload: free
storage per year: $1,800
download: $170
total cost for one year of storage: $1,970
aws import-export
upload: $85
storage per year: $1,800
download: $85
total cost for one year of storage: $1,970
send a 1.5" x 1" x 1" package to amazon for storage.
5.85 * (1 / 12) * (1 / 12) * (1 / 6) = 0.00677083333
it will cost $0.00677 per year. you can fit ten sd cards in such a package.
this is cool. I need a comprehensive backup solution now.
