... and let the Earth be silent after ye.
So much better than my current grow setup. I might be in the market for some new lights now... *ponders*
Have any experience with them new-fangled LED grow lights?
yes, i bought one.
glowpanel 45
i bought it from debnroo.com.

i've only had it on my plants for two days now, but there is a lot of new growth already.
i'll keep you updated, but i think that LED is the way to go. this panel is bright. i'd rather stare at the sun than the LED panel. it only pulls 28 watts. mad savings over a 400 watt HPS/MH system.
plus those HPS/MH lamps explode sometimes. i'd also be worried about trying to get a deal on a ballast--cheap ballasts could potentially kill the lifespan of the bulbs. also, neither type of lamp is ideal--MH doesn't have enough red for good flowering, and HPS doesn't have enough blue for growth.
12 hours per day is about 4383 hours per year. the led lamp lifespan is 50,000+ hours. that means it should last at least 11 years.
remember that it only covers 5 square feet, which is 2.236 feet by 2.236 feet. so you can't fix a whole lot under it. i can fit about two bonsai trees.
i really appreciate how unobtrusive it is. it's very small. i run it from 6am to 6pm. it makes the plants look purple. but it's off at 6pm, so if i have guests over, the plants can be enjoyed with natural lighting for the evening. i'll take a photo of my setup and show you.
also, HPS/MH produce a lot of heat. you'll probably need a fan. then your plants will dry out, so you'll need a humidifier or a little greenhouse box.
